Theodore B. VanItallie, MD

A trustee emeritus since 1993 and trustee since 1976, VanItallie was a visiting professor of international medicine at AUB (’68-’69). He is professor emeritus of medicine at Columbia University, former professor of medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and former director of medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City (1957-75). He also served as chief of the Division of Metabolism, Nutrition and Endocrinology at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. VanItallie is a renowned metabolism and obesity expert who served in numerous national service capacities including: special advisor to the Surgeon General on Human Nutrition, member of the Committee on Recommended Dietary Allowances of the National Research Council, and chairman of the Committee on Clinical Nutrition, Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences. He is a graduate of Harvard College (SB ’41) and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (MD ’45).
