Responsibility to Protect Civilians:
International and Regional Perspectives
Thursday, January 26th, 2017
Issam Fares Institute Building
AUB (Green Oval)
This symposium intends to tackle the various implications of engaging in, or refraining from, humanitarian intervention in the Middle East, while invoking the "Responsibility to Protect Civilians" norm. The merits of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine and its practice have remained hotly contested, particularly as it has been applied in the wake of the Arab uprisings. Through a comprehensive dialogue between academics and policy-makers on the genesis and development of the R2P doctrine, we intend to consider the continuing ethical, normative and legal questions which surround the practice to this day.
