The Computer Science department is hosting and organizing the ArabWIC 5th Annual International Conference on Arab Women in Computing that will be held at the American University of Beirut (AUB) on August 10 to 12th, 2017. The event is co-organized by the Computer Science department at AUB and the Arab Women in Computing chapters all over the Arab world. Top companies such as Google, Facebook, and Microsoft already committed sending tens of their (around 80) of their developers to participate in the event. I kindly want this event to be featured on AUB’s main website as it is one of the biggest events in the Arab world tailored for women in computing. The event will be for three where tens of workshops will be running in parallel.
The goal of the ArabWIC 5th Annual International conference on Arab Women in Computing/Tech is to inspire, support and celebrate women in computing in the Arab world and create links with the global tech ecosystem. More than four hundred international and regional women and men from all technology sectors (academics, students, professionals, VC’s, and entrepreneurs) are expected to participate making this the largest conference on women in tech in the Arab World.
This conference will explore the state of the art of computing/technology, the latest innovations and trends, entrepreneurship and the role of women in tech start-ups and of women VC’s. Women’s enrollment in computer science courses, their involvement in industry and academia, gender gaps, positive trends as well as barriers in the field will all be examined. The conference will feature renowned technical researchers, keynote talks, interactive technical workshops, hackathons, mentoring sessions, networking, career coaching for all levels, a career fair featuring top tech companies, and a gala to celebrate women in technology. The conference is open to everyone from all over the world.
