EDUCATION FOR SOCIAL COHESION IN LEBANON

The Centre for Lebanese Studies (CLS) would like to invite you to its international conference held at the American University of Beirut, which, this year is focusing on the role of education in fostering social cohesion in Lebanon. The conference is co-hosted by the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs. Key experts from across the world will have the opportunity to contribute to, and debate the varying issues surrounding education and social cohesion.

When: Thu 15^th, Fri 16^th and Sat 17^th October 2009
              8 am registration on 15^th October 2009
              9 am registration on 16^th & 17^th October 2009

The CLS conference aims to:

• Raise the profile of social cohesion in the schools’ and universities’ agendas and targets.
• Share and discuss recent advances in theories, programs, planning and practices in the field of education and social cohesion in Lebanon and worldwide.
• Identify examples of good practice in the field of education for social cohesion.
• Explore the role of the public and private education sector in fostering social cohesion.
• Examine the role of NGOs in this field.
• Engage participants in a workshop to construct a vision and a practical plan for promoting active citizenship education.

Please note, attendance is free of charge, but places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
