About
The goal of the IFI program on Research Advocacy & Public Policy-making in the Arab World is to forge an Arab contribution to global knowledge about the practice of policy making. It aims at bridging an existing knowledge gap in policy making by documenting experiences, replicating successful ones, and assessing and improving weak ones. Its uniqueness lies in being an indigenous effort by a policy research institute in the Arab world, collectively with other institutes in the region, to assess and improve how research is influencing policy making.
Strengthening outreach
The program aims at strengthening the outreach and communication strategies of policy-research institutes. Acknowledging that these institutes operate in the world of ideas, communication and outreach are crucial tools to market ideas to different audiences, thus promoting the debate about public policy issues, introducing new ideas and providing creative options and alternatives.
Integrating M&E tools
The program aims at integrating monitoring and evaluation techniques in the strategies of policy research institutes. Adopting tools and techniques of monitoring and evaluation, through this program, is a collective effort where MENA policy research institutes seek to develop mechanisms for quality assurance. These mechanisms will help achieve a constantly revised and improved performance of PRIs, and as well as the delivery of quality research, policy briefs and all related activities to different target audiences.
Studying how policies are made
The program aims at studying how policies are made in MENA, specifically how we take research findings and feed them into an evidence-based policy process. The design of the research methodology and the input of the research are equally important for the purpose of this program. The research design will be a collective effort of professionals in PRIs, academics, and policy makers, where mutual learning and exchange are emphasized. The output of this project will be a set of documented experiences in policy making, both failures and success across different sectors, and in different MENA countries.
