What is Outreach?

Outreach is the AUB portal to educational activities beyond the AUB campus, reaching out to Lebanon, the region, and the world. Using Moodle, the official AUB Learning Management System, instructors can offer interactive courses, training, and workshops in a variety of formats, including web-enhanced, blended, and online.

What is the URL for Outreach?

What can be found on the Outreach homepage?
|
|
The homepage is the first page that you see after you access Outreach. When you log in using your username and password you will be able to see links to all online courses in which you are enrolled. It also includes announcements, notices of events, a calendar and links to resources for instructors and students. Once you are inside your course, you will see a navigation bar starting with homepage at the top of each page. Clicking on this link will take you back to your main page.

How can I create an Outreach account?
|

Your course instructor will send the Outreach administrator a list of the course participants; for each participant, an Outreach account will be created. An email will be sent containing your username and password for your Outreach account. On your first login, you will be forced by the system to change your password.

I forgot my Outreach password, what shall i do?
|
Send the Outreach administrator an email to moodle@aub.edu.lb to reset your password.

How can I access an Outreach course?
|
In Outreach, students are enrolled automatically in their courses by their instructors. To access an Outreach course, open the Outreach homepage http://outreach.aub.edu.lb and enter your username and password to log in. On the homepage, you'll see a list of all of your Outreach courses. Click on the course title to open it.

Can anyone access courses on Outreach?
|

No. Only students registered in an Outreach course may access it. However, instructors may allow guest access to a course.
|
Why can't I access the Outreach website properly?
|
If you cannot access the Outreach website properly:
- Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to inform the staff there about the problem
- Try to avoid congestion times (times in which the internet traffic is high) for better access
- If you have enabled cookies, java-script, and pop-ups, and still have problems, check for any firewall or web proxy that might be running on your computer

Why can't I access my Outreach course?
|
|
If you cannot find your course on your homepage, you should contact your instructor. Your access to an Outreach course is granted only by your instructor.
|
Why can't I save a PDF from an Outreach course?
|
Be sure you are using Adobe Acrobat version 4.0 or higher. If you are using Adobe Acrobat 3.0, you cannot save PDF files on your hard disk: you can only read or print them. A free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded from the Adobe Acrobat site.

Are there any restrictions on the names of files that I upload to Outreach?
|
|
Don't use special characters or Arabic letters in your file names or passwords. Special characters such as a blank space, * / \ ? " ' { } etc., are not allowed in file names or passwords.

How do I log out of an Outreach session?
|
|
In order to end a session, you must click on 'Logout' (top right hand side of window). If you do not log out, your account will remain active. The next person to use the same computer will have full access to your account.

Which Internet browser is the best for running Outreach?
|
It is recommended to choose a browser that supports Moodle's in-line HTML editor. The recommended Internet browsers are Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. It is not recommended to use Opera, Chrome or Safari since the built-in HTML editor will not show in Moodle. Firefox is open-source and free! You can download it from here.

Do I need to install any software plug-in so that I can use Outreach?
|
Please note that no special hardware is needed to run Outreach, however, files posted on Outreach may need a particular application for viewing. If you are attempting to view a Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint document, for example, make sure that the computer you are using has Microsoft Office installed on it. If you do not have Microsoft Office installed, you can download a viewer to view Office documents. If you are attempting to view Flash material and you don't have Flash Player installed on your computer, then download the most recent version of it from the Macromedia site. Important things to remember
|
- Always log out of Outreach and close your browser when you finish working with Outreach. Otherwise, others can assume your identity when they use the same machine
- Always use the navigation bar and NOT the Back/Forward buttons of your browser for easier navigation in the Outreach pages
- Do not use special characters or Arabic letters in your file names or passwords. Special characters such as a blank space, * / \ ? " ' { } etc., are not allowed in file names or passwords
