• Death of Laura Bustani, a major supporter of AUB, recalls love story with the university
  Laura Bustani, a major supporter of AUB and the widow of the late Emile Bustani -- one of the most influential businessmen, philanthropists and leading political figures in the region -- died at the AUB Medical Center on February 6, 2012 after a struggle with illness.
  
  
• AUB launches master's degree program in media studies
  The American University of Beirut announced the launching of an MA in Media Studies in fall 2012. The new program has received approval for registration by the Office of College and University Education of the New York Education Department.
  
  
• AUB School of Nursing Honor Society; Induction Ceremony
  This honor society is the first in the Middle East to be invited by Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society in honor of its many years of achievement as an accredited program that has graduated generations in nursing.

  AUBMC recently announced the opening of its renovated state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, after expanding the existing one and significantly adding to its number of beds.
  
  
• AUB-led multi-institutional research team finds that obesity among children is on the rise
  Obesity among children and adults has almost doubled over the past 15 years, something which could also increase the prevalence of chronic diseases in the next generations, warned researchers at AUB.
