ALL students who do not hold a Lebanese passport or Lebanese civil identity card are required by the Surete Generale of Lebanon to obtain a Residence Permit before the expiration of the entry visa stamped in their passport. This includes persons from neighboring and regional countries, who might ordinarily need few travel documents to enter Lebanon, if they were not students.

Plan Ahead!

Gathering the required documents (see list to the right) to obtain a Residence Permit may require a week.  In addition it is wise to expect at least two weeks for the Surete General to process your request for a residence permit. You will not be able to travel outside Lebanon during the period while your Residence Permit is being processed; please plan ahead accordingly.

Procedures and Instructions

AUB students requiring a Residence Permit should download the appropriate form from the AUB Onestop site (scroll down to the Office of International Programs listings). You must complete the form, and bring it, along with your passport to Room 320, West Hall, during regular business hours, in order to have it verified, signed and stamped.  You should expect that it will take 24 hours for OIP staff to approve and return a Residence Permit application.

Instructions for obtaining a residence permit are available to the right for both graduate and undergraduate students. For automated residence permit information in Arabic, French or English you can directly dial 1717 (no need to dial 01 before the number).  You can also call the department of visa information at 01 612401 for detailed assistance.

Caution

Please note that failure to comply with regulations regarding Residence Permits may result in deportation and other serious consequences for any international student who does not have the Lebanese documents referred to above.
