WHAT IS THE DURATION OF TREATMENT?
Counseling can be brief and involve one or two sessions or last for several months. After the first assessment or screening, the counselor will tell you of the further steps that need to be taken and discuss options with you. In rare circumstances and only if appropriate, the Counseling Center therapists may recommend that you seek medical, diagnostic, or treatment services through the UHS.
WHAT ARE THE FEES CHARGED FOR USING THE AUB COUNSELING SERVICES?
All AUB counseling services are absolutely free of charge. However, if you seek a referral to an outside counseling service or if you require psychiatric or other medical care, you will be liable for any fees not covered by your medical insurance (whether HIP or a private provider).
HOW CAN AN APPOINTMENT BE SCHEDULED?
Appointments are usually arranged with the counselor at a time convenient for you and the counselor. A counseling session lasts 50 to 60 minutes.
You can either stop in at the Counseling Center’s office, or you can call Dr. Khabbaz at ext. 3178 or Ms. Donna Alam at ext. 3158 to set up an appointment in advance. You need not be referred by anyone.
IS THERE AN EMERGENCY NUMBER TO CALL OUTSIDE REGULAR OFFICE HOURS?
Outside regular university office hours, there are on-call residents at the AUBMC, AUB Medical Center. Students who need emergency treatment after university regular hours therefore may page the on-call resident or merely go to the AUBMC Emergency Room (Ext. 6605, 6617, and 6618).
If a student is an AUB dormitory resident and there is an emergency after regular hours, s/he may seek the help of the dormitory Head Resident. Depending on the nature of the emergency, s/he may also call the University Protection Office (Security ext. 2400). As for students living off-campus with parents or relatives, they are urged to turn to their parents for emergency needs. Students living in apartments near campus may call the city police if that seems more appropriate than AUBMC.
