What is the bursary program?
Any student who receives a full or partial scholarship from a government agency, business firm, foundation, international organization, or other educational institution falls under this category.
How does the program work?
A number of students, mainly from the Arab world but also from beyond, are sponsored by their national governments through their embassies or through large private institutions to study at AUB. The Office of Student Affairs provides administrative support and financial updates to the sponsoring institutions or embassies.
Through the program, the Office of Student Affairs represents the sponsor on campus when interacting with other administrative units and also acts as liaison between the student's sponsor and the student. The program also maintains record of the sponsor's transactions and provides accounting details on behalf of the University. If required the program also provides periodic information on the student's academic performance.
Who are the sponsors?
Traditionally governments sponsor their students for study at AUB. In the past the US Agency for International Development Sponsored dozens of students from non-US countries that included a range from Bangladesh to Somalia. States usually sponsor their students through representative embassies in Lebanon. Some sponsors however are large private institutions such as ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia.
