Graduates and Ph.Ds 

As part of their education, AUB students will have access to the University Libraries’ (Jafet and the branch libraries-Science & Agriculture and Engineering & Architecture) wide range of services to aid them in their research and in using the library resources.

Borrowing Privileges

  • PhD candidates may borrow up to 50 items for one semester. Graduates may borrow up to 25 items for 8 weeks. All items may be renewed online. Check here for more details.
  • A reminder message is automatically sent one week before due date informing the borrower that the item need to be returned or renewed.
  • Failure to return borrowed items will incur a fine of $1.00 per day. Lost items should be reported immediately.
  • The patron will be blocked from borrowing until the item is returned.
  • Renew my borrowed books - My Library Account
    You may renew your borrowed books online, by logging in to My Library Account in the Library Catalog.

    Recall Policy
    If requested by another borrower, the University Libraries reserve the right to recall borrowed books after at least two weeks of use. When a library material is recalled, a recall notice will automatically be sent to the borrower’s AUB email informing him/her that the material is needed by another borrower and asking him/her to return it within one week. Failure to return a recalled item within the seven days period will incur a fine of $1.00 per day (faculty exempted), and the patron will be blocked from borrowing until the item is returned. When the borrowed item is returned to the library, the requesting user is notified by email and the item is put on hold for him for no longer that 72 hours.

Thesis Help

Graduate and post-graduate students preparing a thesis or a dissertation may schedule one-on-one sessions for assistance in locating information in all the resources of the Libraries that are relevant to their topic.

A professional librarian will assist you in performing a literature review of your topic

Formatting and Submitting Thesis

For thesis formatting and submission, go to the Archives and Special Collections (ASC) Department in Jafet Library, from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am. to 5:00 pm.

Quick Guidelines
Theses must follow the form and style described in the latest edition of K.L. Turabian Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations (University of Chicago Press), or any other form specified by your Department.

  • Draft of your thesis should be checked at the ASC Department.
  • Deadlines for deposit of theses at the Library (as stated in AUB Catalogue) are: 
        • November 10 for students graduating in October
        • March 10 for students graduating in February 
        • June 20 for students graduating in June
  • The Library requires 1 copy of your master's thesis, project and doctoral dissertation from the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and Suliman S. Olayan School of Business students.
  • One copy of your final thesis in PDF format and in an MS-Word document on a CD-ROM.
  • The ASC Department will give you a release form that you will submit to the Registrar's Office, for clearance purposes.

Ph.D., Graduate, and Undergraduate students can order materials (articles, chapters of books, conferences, proceedings or any other research material) that are not found in AUB libraries, free of charge.

Reserving a Carrel

Students writing theses should request a letter from their advisor stating they are engaged in thesis preparation. Print the form, fill it out, sign it, and send it to the Access Services Librarian. 

Reserving a Group Study Room

Group study rooms are available on the 3rd floor of Jafet library (in the Reserve Reading Room - RRR). Reservations are made online via http://aub.edu.lb.libcal.com/booking/groupstudy
