Ibsar announces winners of Biodiversity Village Award

BEIRUT: The winners of the first AUB-Ibsar Biodiversity Village Award were announced Wednesday, as the villages of Arsal, Niha, Kawkaba and Meshmesh won recognition for their efforts.Launched earlier this year, the competition works to promote local participation in creating “green maps,” which identify villages’ main natural landmarks, as well as their environmental initiatives.

Biodiversity Village Award Winners Announced
October 27, 2011

Beirut – 26 October, 2011: AUB-Ibsar, Nature Conservation Center for Sustainable Futures at the American University of Beirut (AUB), announced today the winners of the Biodiversity Village Award (BVA) which was launched earlier this year. The announcement was attended by the Director General of Municipalities, Mr. Khalil Hajal, representing the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, Dean Nahla Hwalla representing AUB’s Provost, Mr. Antoine Tayyar representing The Coca-Cola Foundation, project participants and members of the press.

Competing to save the environment: The results of the Biodiversity Village Award

The winners of AUB’s Biodiversity Village Award (BVA), Baldati Bi’ati, have been honored in their efforts to preserve and save Lebanon’s existing and future environment.
Held under the auspices of the Directorate General of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, the awards presentation ceremony took place at the Safir Hotel on October 26, 2011.
The competition, organized by AUB’s Nature Conservation Center for Sustainable Futures, Ibsar, aimed to promote local participation in the development of village maps produced via a self-assessment process highlighting the importance of conserving native tree species and local biodiversity in each of the 18 participating villages.

بتاريخ 26 تشرين الاول 2011 ، قام مركز إبصار - الجامعة الاميركية في بيروت بالتعاون مع مؤسسة كوكا كولا العالمية وبرعاية وزارة الداخلية والبلديات اللبنانية بحفل تكريم وتوزيع الجوائز على البلديات التي اشتركت بمشروع "بلدتي بيئتي" وذلك في فندق السفير عند الساعة 11 صباحاً .
البلديات التي اشتركت : عين زبدة ، عيتا الفخار ، عرسال الباروك ، ببنين ، بكاسين ، ضهر الاحمر ، دير الزهراني ، حمانا ، جزين ، كوكبا ، مشمش ، منيارة ، مرستي ، نيحا، رأس المتن ، الريحان ، شانيه
وعليه ، استلمت بلدية رأس المتن شهادة تقدير ممثلة بالاستاذ رجا أبو رسلان - منسق المشاريع والدكتور خالد أحمد تقي - مستشار رئيس البلدية بمناسبة اشتراكها بتحضير الدراسات المؤدية إلى مشاريع بيئية وتفصيل ذلك أن أهالي رأس المتن يعملون سنين عديدة على تحضير دراسات هدفها الاستخدام المستدام لمنتوجات الغابة .
