The Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences (CAMS) and the Department of Mathematics cordially invite you to a seminar entitled "Equations
for modular curves" by Prof. Kamal Khuri-Makdisi.

Abstract:

Modular curves are quotients of the upper half complex plane by certain subgroups of SL(2,Z). I will discuss their definition, their interpretation as parameter spaces, and some methods for finding explicit equations to describe these curves.
