Full-time research assistant needed at NFSC Department, FAFS

 

The Nutrition and Food Sciences (NFSC) Department seeks to appoint a full-time research assistant to assist faculty members. The appointment will be on annual basis subject to renewal, starting September 1, 2012.

Laboratory

- Supervising laboratories covering both areas of Nutrition and Food Science;
- Participating in preparation of laboratory experiments (Food analysis, Technology of Food Products, Food Processing Laboratory);
- Assisting and coaching students working on research projects and tutorials;
- Training and enforcing lab safety procedures.

 


Equipment and supply

- Following-up on equipment maintenance;
- Identifying and maintaining research equipment and laboratory essentials;
- Ordering lab supplies, consumables and equipment chemicals and keeping inventory.

Purchasing and Budgeting
- Studying and preparing applications for equipment purchase submissions and negotiation letters for the department.

 


Minimum qualifications

- MS Chemistry/Biochemistry/Food Technology or related field,
- Basic analytical skills (2-3 years of experience),
- Knowledge and experience in the following: food analysis, proximate analysis, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography GC, and other techniques,
- Proficiency in Microsoft office applications,
- Experience in teaching or training is a plus.
