OSB students accomplishing internship during summer 2005-06
July 27, 2006
Dear OSB Internship Students
I have been receiving inquiries from faculty members and students regarding the continuity of our internship program for this summer 2006. Some students already started their internship and a site visit was already done, others did not start yet. The following is the position of OSB:
- The situation in the country is not safe, and therefore the OSB and its faculty members do not want to jeopardize the safety of any of our students, and will therefore assume no responsibility or liability of any form for any student insisting on continuing to go around and to attend for and fulfill their internships.
- AUB has officially decided to "suspend all classes for the summer session until further notice " Hence the summer session is frozen for now.
- Some students who already started their internship argue that in some areas, continuing to attend for internship remains possible as some employers remain operating and access to them from students' homes remain safe and feasible. Students at their own risk may opt to complete their internships and we will count this PARTIALLY or FULLY toward meeting the requirements. This is 100% optional and the students risk (no liability or responsibility is assumed by OSB). I must say, however, that in case AUB cancelled all registration in the summer and refunded or gave cash credit for students who already paid their summer tuition fees, completing internship (with satisfactory evidence from employer and faculty supervisor) would be approved only after reinstating students in BUSS 245 and after payment/reinstatement of the one credit course. Students should communicate their continued internship with their assigned faculty supervisor to her/his satisfaction.
- Students who did not start their internship yet, SHOULD not start now as no credit would be permitted.
- OSB remains committed in the future, once things cool down and AUB decides to resume classes, to reposition its students in internship program hopefully without causing any delay in graduation on scheduled time. Where, where, how and the length remain to be decided in the future.
Sincerely;
Said Elfakhani
