VP George Tomey willingly accepted to become Acting President in my absence as the hostilities unfolded following July 12, 2006. VP Tomey is no stranger to such exceptional and dangerous situations, and we must all be grateful that we had someone of his experience to guide us through those difficult weeks.

With my return to AUB, the title Acting President is no longer appropriate, but I and the University still need VP Tomey.s wisdom and expertise. Therefore I am appointing him Deputy President, effective August 8, 2006, and until such time as we estimate the University has returned to normal conditions.

Mr. Tomey will step down as VP for Administration on October 1, 2006 as previously scheduled and announced.
