Message from the Acting President - Updated Calendar

August 3, 2006 

The Boards of Deans in its meeting of August 3, 2006 approved the following
decisions:
 
The American University of Beirut plans to complete the current Summer Term to allow students to complete their coursework. The Summer will be completed in a three-week condensed mode with extra sessions. This will occur when the university considers that conditions are safe to hold classes according to the schedule below. The University will allow adequate time between the date of the announcement and the resumption of classes of the Summer Term for proper mobilization.

The Fall Semester will begin immediately after the completion of the Summer Term.


Week 1:
-Monday: Resume classes for the Summer Term.

Week 2:
-Monday-Friday: Pre registration for Sophomore new students for the Fall Term 2006-07.
-Friday: Deadline for withdrawal from courses for the Summer Term.

Week 3:
-Monday -Wednesday: Pre registration for Sophomore new students for the Fall Term 2006-07.
-Wednesday-Friday: Orientation, advising and online registration for new Sophomore students, old returning and cross registering students for the Fall Term 2006-07.
-Friday: End of classes for the Summer Term.

Week 4:
-Monday - Saturday: Final Exams and submission of grades for the Summer Term.
-Monday -Tuesday: Pre registration for new Freshman students, new students coming from abroad, and new graduate students for the Fall Term 2006-07.
-Tuesday - Friday: Orientation for new Freshman students, new students coming from abroad, and new graduate students for the Fall Term 2006-07.
-Tuesday - Friday Advising for new Freshman students, new students coming from abroad, and new graduate students for the Fall Term 2006-07.
-Wednesday - Friday: On line course registration for new Freshman students, new students coming from abroad, and new graduate students for the Fall Term 2006-07.
-Wednesday: Deadline for graduate assistants formalities for the Fall Term.
-Thursday: Last day for deferred payment.

 Week 5:
-Monday-Tuesday: Advising and online course registration for continuing students for the Fall Term 2006-07.
-Wednesday: First semester begins for all Faculties except Medicine
-Thursday-Friday: Drop and Add period for the Fall Term.

Week 6:
-Monday: Opening Ceremony.
-Monday-Tuesday: Continuation of the Drop and Add period for the Fall Term.
-Thursday: Deadline for payment of fees for all students for the Fall Term.
-Friday: Deadline for registration formalities for staff and staff dependents.

Week7:
-Friday: Deadline for HIP waivers.
 
Week 8:
-Thursday: Deadline for late payment of fees for all students for the Fall Term.
-Thursday: Deadline for NSSF declaration.

Week 15:
- Friday: Last day for withdrawal for the Fall Term.
 
Week 20:
 -Friday: Classes end for all Faculties except Medicine.
 
Week 21-Week 22:
- Reading period, Final Exams, and submission of grades for the Fall Term.

Students expected to graduate in the summer semester 05/06 or in the fall semester 06/07 and who wish to register at other recognized universities can take credit for their courses provided they get prior written approval of the Dean of their faculty.  The procedures for this process are being developed by the Registrar's office and the Office of International Student Services and will be available on the web at this link:
