Coralie Hindawi

Faculty Profile: Coralie Hindawi

Although she commands four languages including her native French, Assistant Professor of international law and international relations Coralie Hindawi started teaching in English for the first time when she joined AUB’s Department of Political Studies and Public Administration in September 2009.

Hindawi gave one course in international law and two in international relations to undergraduates during the fall semester. Now she is teaching undergraduates two sections of introduction to international relations and a special course on arms control and disarmament. She finds AUB students generally “enthusiastic and interactive, even if some tend to be a little lazy.”

Hindawi studied law and earned an MA in European law from Pierre Mendes France University in 2000. She then specialized in international security and worked between 2003 and 2008 as an associate researcher at the Centre d’Etudes sur la Sécurité Internationale et les Coopérations Européennes in France and at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute for socio-cultural research in Germany.

In December 2008, she completed her PhD in international security and political sciences from the University Pierre Mendes France and the Albert Ludwigs University in Germany; her study focused on the use of coercion against Iraq since April 1991 and its impact.

Courses in Arabic and Islamic sciences taken in France, Germany, and Jordan and work experience gained in the Middle East furnished Hindawi with fair knowledge about the region and its concerns.

An avid linguist, Hindawi could already recite Arabic poetry when she first met her Jordanian husband in Germany. Now she has a five-year-old daughter with whom she loves to spend time. And for leisure, she enjoys swimming, hiking in the mountains, and listening to various kinds of music.

With a belief contracted from a well-known Arabic wise saying, “Patience is the key to salvation,” Hindawi believes in providing service to others and making the best of any situation.
