The Washington Post of August 5 published an article featuring Lebanese-based Palestinian rappers. It quoted Angie Nassar, a contributing reporter to popular website Now Lebanon, who is writing her master's thesis at the American University of Beirut on Arabic hip-hop, as saying, “It's a very powerful thing when you don't have a voice in this country to say, 'No, we do live here. Palo Alto Online of August 13 reported on the death of Ara Vahan Dumanian at the age of 81 on August 5. The paper said that Dumanian enrolled at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon in 1949 and graduated in 1953 with a medical degree. Seattle Times, War in Iraq, Chicago Tribune, and Stamford Advocate of August 22 and The Hampton Roads Daily Press of August 23 published an article on the recent controversy in the U.S. about the building of a mosque next to ground zero in New York City. The paper quoted AUB professor of political studies Ahmad Mousalli as saying, “The United States has historically been distinguished by its tolerance, whereas Europe, France, Belgium and Holland have been among those who have rejected the symbolism of Islam. The Northern Echo of August 24 reported that Lebanese George al-Ojeili won a framed Newcastle United football shirt, signed by the club’s Coca Cola Championship winning team after signing up to Northern Rock’s dedicated fan site, “Sign the Stripes”. The paper said that al-Ojeili recently graduated with a degree in economics from the American University of Beirut.
