  • Whittier Daily News of June 1 and Redlands Daily Facts of June 3 reported that Noura Kassis, a professor of nursing at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut and the University of Phoenix in Diamond Bar, was recognized by the American Nurses Association for her dedication in serving others with a strong commitment to patient safety. The paper said that "a very determined Kassis went to study medicine at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon but decided that being a doctor was not for her. So she switched gears to nursing."

  • The Roar of June 2 reported on the spread of the formation of Rugby leagues around the world and in the MENA region. It said that Mikhael Shammas, a Lebanese business graduate, founded the Wolves RLFC team at the American University of Beirut and is now starting the Boston 13’s.

  • Wan, The Editor's Weblog of June 6 reported on the proceedings of the 4th Arab Free Press Forum held in Beirut. The paper said that during the conference, AUB professor Jad Melki highlighted the rising consumption of new media sources and acknowledged a thirst for news - particularly in Arabic - as a sign of engagement with current affairs.

  • The CTRM Blog of June 4 published an interview with Dr. Salim J. Jabbour, founder and CEO of Abacus Solutions Inc, developer of SATURN, a highly integrated ETRM software system that offers broad solutions, including trade capture and valuation, market simulation, generation optimization, credit management, and business intelligence. The paper said that Jabbour holds an MBA from the American University of Beirut and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

  • Home Toys of June 3 and The Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration News of June 4 reported that AUB is an American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) grant recipient for its project "Study of Performance of a Solar Assisted Liquid Desiccant System to Supply Building Fresh Water and Cooling Needs by Modeling and Experimentation."

  • The New York Times of June 7 published an obituary of Vera B. Saeedpour, a scholar and archivist of the Kurdish culture. The paper said that in 2003, Lokman I. Meho, a Kurdish scholar and an archivist currently working at the American University of Beirut, told The Times, “People from all over the world doing research on Kurds and Kurdistan get in touch with Vera.”

  • Tri-County Times of June 8 reported that Ghassan and Manal Saab of Fenton Township are the recipients of the 2010 Russell G. Mawby Award for Philanthropy, Michigan’s most prestigious philanthropy award. The paper said that Ghassan graduated from the American University of Beirut with a degree in civil engineering, and has served as president and owner of Sorensen Gross Construction Company since 1971.

  • Sky High Daily News, CBS4 Denver, and Coloradoan.com of June 9 published an article featuring Tom Sutherland who was kidnapped in Beirut 25 years ago. The paper said that when he was taken, Sutherland was on leave from his job as a professor at Colorado State University and serving a three-year term as dean of Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the American University of Beirut.

  • Harvard Belfer Center of June 7 published a political editorial by Rami Khouri, the director of AUB's Issam Fares Institute for Public Diplomacy and International Affairs, entitled "Hittites with iPods." He argued that "Turkey enjoys greater respect and appreciation around the Middle East because it approaches most closely the cherished goal that has eluded every Arab country -- and Iran -- since the age of independence dawned nearly a century ago."

  • The Media Line and All Headline News of June 13 and Gulf Times of June 15 reported that Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria reached an agreement that would allow for free trade and travel between them. The paper quoted AUB Professor of economics Marcus Marktanner as saying, “There is indeed a substantial increase of foreign direct investment in Lebanon...What really seems to matter currently is the deterioration of the global investment climate in general, and the economic meltdown in the Gulf in particular. But Lebanon has been relatively isolated from global economic dynamics.”

  • Cambridge Who's Who of June 15 reported that George Georges, associate vice president of Allergy, Respiratory, and Anti-Infectives for Sanofi-Aventis US LLC., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in medical research. The paper said that Georges received his MD from the American University of Beirut in 1990.

  • Global Security Uruknet of June 21 and AINA of June 22 published an article about recent assassination threats against former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi. The paper quoted AUB professor of political studies Hilal Khashan as saying, "Many Iraqi Shiites do not like Mr. Allawi, because they fear his strong backing by Iraq's Sunni Arab community could propel Sunnis back into power."

  • Radio Sawa of June 24 published an article on the pervasiveness of smoking in Lebanon and the country’s delay in enforcing a ban on public smoking. The paper quoted a study conducted by the American University of Beirut on the adverse health and economic effects of smoking in Lebanon.

  • Go for Wood of June 25 published an interview with Anahit Gharibyan, the manager of Armenia Tree Project’s Community Tree Planting (CTP) Program. The paper said that in 2007, Anahit went to Lebanon to help establish a tree planting program affiliated with the American University of Beirut.

  • Eventseer.net of June 27 announced the forthcoming workshop entitled, "Mediterranean-Middle Eastern Research Mentoring/Publishing Workshop" to be held on June 29 in Beirut.   • Scottrade of June 29 published the profiles of the five nominated ministers who obtained the vote of confidence from Afghanistan MPs. The paper said Dr. Anwar ul Haq Ahadi is nominated for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The paper said that Ahadi holds a masters degree in economics and political studies from the American University of Beirut.
