Media Matters of September 3 commented on the recent allegations made by Walid Shoebat on a Fox News show in which he accused Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf as being a radical Muslim by saying, “His support of Hamas, Hizbullah, the Islamic jihad movement has been expressed by him in the Arabic language. His manifesto has been expressed by - in Al-Ghad newspaper, and hadielislam.com, in several news media.” The paper quoted AUB professor of political studies Ahmad Moussalli as saying that “that Shoebat's remarks are a blatant misrepresentation of the denotation and connotation of Mr. Rauf's statements in Hadielislam and Al-Ghad newspaper. The Arab American News of September 4 published a review of Ussama Makdisi’s recently published book, entitled, Why do they hate us? Makdisi explained “that over time, the religious missions, taking into account the resistance they faced from the eastern churches, had morphed into a more secular endeavor. Times Higher Education of September 9 reported on the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Europe conference held in Glasgow. The paper said that Stephen Jeffrey, the vice president for development and external relations at the American University of Beirut, spoke at a session entitled, "The Wealth Pendulum Swings East” that focused on higher education in the Middle East. Sourcews of September 9 reported that Shenandoah University is hosting a forum on the Middle East and said that Dr. Ziad J. Asali, the president and founder of the American Task Force on Palestine and a long-time activist on Middle East issues, will speak at an International Topics Forum. Chiro Eco of September 10 reported on a small study conducted by Lebanese researchers that found that adolescents can safely take, and may need, vitamin D doses that are up to 10 times what is generally recommended. ITP.net of September 27 reported that Intel is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its Digital Transformation Initiative in the Middle East. The paper said that Intel would continue to support its existing research programs in the region, including the Middle East Energy Efficiency Research Project (MER) which is being run in partnership with Nile University, Cairo, American University of Beirut, Middle East Technical University in Turkey and KACST.
