  • An-Nahar, Al-Anwar, Ad-Diyar, and Ash-Sharq of April 1, As-Safir of April 4, and Al Liwa and Ad-Diyar of April 5 carried the statement by the Lebanese Federation of University Sports, giving the schedule for the men and women's university basketball championship. The papers said AUB's men's team will compete against NDU and La Sagesse. The women's team will compete against AUST, Kaslik, and Haigazian.

  • As-Safir of April 1 reported on the forthcoming concert by Sami Hawwat and his band at Assembly Hall on April 2.

  • Al-Liwa and Al-Akhbar of April 1 and As-Safir of April 9 reported on the sit-in held by AUB students at College Hall protesting the recent public visit to Israel of AUB trustee Carlos Ghosn.

  • Al-Balad of April 1, 7, 8, and 9 reported on the forthcoming play, directed by Sharif Abdunour, entitled "The Journey of Handhala." The paper said that the play will be given at West Hall from April 2 to April 13.

  • Al-Bayraq, Al-Balad, Al-Liwa, Al-Mustaqbal, Ash-Sharq, Ad-Diyar, Al-Anwar and An-Nahar of April 1 reported at length on the results of the Bank of Beirut Rugby League Championship, held as part of the tournament organized by the Lebanese Federation of University Sports on Hadi Abdunnur field. Papers said that AUB is scheduled to play against LAU on April 5.

  • L'Orient-Le Jour of April 1 reported on the forthcoming children's activity at the AUB Archaeological Museum on April 6. Entitled "Past and Present Seven Wonders of the World," the event is organized by the Society of Friends of the Museums.

  • Al-Akhbar of April 1 reported on the concert held on March 29 at Assembly Hall by Al Fayha Choir conducted by Maestro Barkev Taslakian, commemorating the fourth anniversary of Zaki Nassif's death. The paper said that the concert was organized by the Zaki Nassif Music Program at AUB.

  • As-Safir of April 2 published a lengthy article on the messages that will be conveyed in Sami Hawwat's concert at Assembly Hall on April 2. The article included quotations by Sami Hawwat who said that the concert will reflect the absurdity of our contemporary life.

  • As-Safir of April 2 published a comic strip by Lena Merhej, who is an AUB graduate, from the newly issued Lebanese comic book Samandal, announcing its availability in local bookstores.

  • Al-Mustaqbal, Al-Anwar, Al-Baqraq, and The Daily Star of April 4 reported on the lecture given by Omar Blaik, former director of facilities and planning at the University of Pennsylvania and president and CEO of U3 Ventures, entitled "Urban Anchors, Models of Engagement." The papers said that the lecture was organized by the Center for American Studies and Research at AUB, and discussed the ways in which universities and cities can help each other.

  • The Daily Star of April 4 and April 5 and An-Nahar and As-Safir of April 5 published an ad for the MBA program at AUB's Olayan School of Business. The ad said that the deadline for receiving applications is April 30 for the fall semester and November 1 for spring semester.

  • As-Safir of April 5 published a lengthy article on the concert held by Sami Hawat at Assembly Hall.

  • Al-Liwa, Al-Mustqbal, and L'Orient-Le Jour of April 5 and Al-Akhbar of April 8 published an article on the recent play directed by Sharif Abdulnoor and organized by AUB's Department of Fine Arts and Art History entitled "The Journey of Handhala." The papers said that the play was given in West Hall from April 2 until April 13.

  • Al-Anwar and Al-Bayraq of April 5 reported on the workshop on "Academic Integrity" held at Zahle's Evangelical School and organized by Bicharaf, the national initiative on academic integrity and business ethics founded in 2004 and housed in AUB.

  • The Daily Star of April 5 reported on the lecture given by AUB's Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies entitled "Rethinking Secularization in the Middle East" by Professor Gudrun Kraemer of Freie Universitat in Berlin. The paper said that Kraemer argued that one "can oppose secularization but not opt out of it."

  • The Daily Star of April 5 reported on the lecture held by Dr. Camille Aizarani, AUB clinical instructor of family medicine, entitled "Cervical Cancer and Genital Warts: Time for Prevention." The paper said that Dr. Aizarani surveyed ways to prevent cervical cancer.

  • L'Orient-Le Jour of April 5 published a lengthy article on an art exhibit at Haigazian University's Galerie Matossian in which AUB professor of design Arwa Seifeddine participated.

  • The Central News Agency of April 5 published a list of forthcoming events at AUB including the English Speaking Union in Lebanon's 8th National Public Speaking competition finale to be held on Saturday, April 5 at AUB; and poetry reading on April 8 by poet Yussef Abdel-Samad, who heads the New York-based New Pen League. The paper said that former Ambassador Fuad Turk would introduce Abdel-Samad.

  • The Daily Star of April 7 and As-Safir of April 9 reported on the announcement of the final results of the Lebanon's English Speaking Union's 8th National Public Speaking competition at AUB on April 5. This year's theme was entitled "New Horizons, New Frontiers." The paper said that winners were Joulan Abdoul Khalek from AUB and Jad El Khoury from the University of Balamand.  Both will travel to London to take part in the ESU International Finals in May 2008 where young people from more than 40 countries will compete.

  • As-Safir of April 7 published a lengthy article on the foundation of an American Evangelical School in the Lebanese village of Abeih two decades before the establishment of the Syrian Protestant College in 1866 in Beirut.

  • An-Nahar, Ad-Diyar, and Al-Anwar of April 8, and Central News Agency, An-Nahar, Ad-Diyar, Al-Liwa, and Ash-Sharq of April 9 reported that former Lebanese Prime Minister Omar Karami had been admitted to AUBMC due to a stomach ulcer, and that a number of Lebanese officials went to visit him during his stay at the hospital.

  • An Nahar, Ad-Diyar, Al-Mustaqbal, Al-Akhbar, Al-Anwar, Ash-Sharq, Al-Balad, L'Orient-Le Jour, and Al-Bayraq of April 8 and As-Safir of April 9 reported on the results of 17th phase of the Bank of Beirut Rugby League Championship, held as part of the tournament organized by
    the Lebanese Federation of University Sports on Hadi Abdunnur field. Papers said that AUB's team won against LAU's team.

  • Al-Liwa of April 8 reported on the comedy "Open Relationship" performed by students from AUB's Fine Arts and Art History Department and directed by AUB CS instructor Sharif Abdunnur.

  • L'Orient-Le Jour of April 8 published a lengthy article on Lebanese artist Leila Kanso and her artwork. The article said that Kanso joined AUB in the 1970s to pursue a degree in political studies.

  • An-Nahar, Al-Liwa', Al-Bayraq, and Al-Mustaqbal of April 9 reported on the inauguration of a book fair entitled "Andalucia: Call for Coexistence," by General Manager of the Lebanese Ministry of Education Omar Halablab, representing Minister of Education HE Tarek Mitri. The paper said that the book fair is at West Hall.

  • The Central News Agency, Ash-Sharq, Al-Bayraq, and Al-Anwar of April 9, and Al-Akhbar of April 10 announced that a lecture entitled "Is Lebanon Ready for Tobacco Control? Lessons to be learned from other Countries' Experiences," by Dr. Gregory Connolly will be given under the auspices of HE Minister of Public Health Mohammad Jawad Khalife, presented by the Tobacco Control Research Group of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Issam Fares Insititute for Public Policy on April 10 at the Gefinor Rotana Hotel, Beirut.

  • Al-Anwar, Al-Bayraq, As-Safir, and Al-Mustaqbal of April 9 reported on the memorial service held in front of West Hall in remembrance of late AUB Visiting Professor of Political Studies Andrew Vincent. The paper said that Vincent passed away on April 6 after a long illness.

  • L'Orient-Le Jour of April 9 published a lengthy article on a new movement entitled "Slow Food Beirut" that promotes better quality in food service and production. The article included a quotation by AUB professor of agriculture Rami Zurayk.

  • L'Orient-Le Jour of April 9 reported on the performance of two Italian musicians, violinist Massimo Pacella and pianist Vincenzo Lattanzi, at Assembly Hall on April 7. The paper said that the concert was organized by the Goethe Institute, Beirut.

  • An-Nahar of April 10 published a review of Dr. George Frayha's recently published book "Min al-Qalb" (From the Heart). The paper said that Dr. Frayha derived one of the chapters of his book from his experience as a professor at AUB's faculty of medicine.

  • As-Sharq, As-Safir, Ad-Diyar of April 10 published the results of the Mini Football University Championship organized by the Manar University in Tripoli and the Lebanese Federation of University Sports. The paper said that AUB's team lost to University of Kaslik team.

  • Al-Bayraq and Al-Anwar of April 10 announced that a concert entitled "Women of Note: Ensemble Polyphonica and Friends" will take place on April 14 at Assembly Hall. The paper said that the concert is organized by the Zaki Nassif Music Program and will feature musical
    pieces by Joelle Khoury, Hildegard of Bingen, Nelly LiPuma, and MacArthur Genius Grant Winner Meredith Monk.

  • Al-Bayraq and Al-Anwar of April 10 published an article on the poetry reading at West Hall by poet Yussef Abdel-Samad, who heads the New York-based New Pen League. The paper said that Abdel-Samad read excerpts from his two poetry books, "Al-Saif wa Sawsan" (The Sword and the Flower) and "Bab al-Madina" (The City Gate) on April 8. The paper also said that former Ambassador Fuad Turk introduced Abdel-Samad at the event.

  • An-Nahar, Ash-Sharq, Ad-Diyar, Al-Mustaqbal, As-Safir, and Al-Liwa of April 11 reported on a press conference by the head of student affairs in the Lebanese Forces party, Charbel Eid. The papers said that Eid congratulated the party for winning in student elections this year in American universities throughout Lebanon including AUB.

  • Al-Anwar, Al-Bayraq, and the Central News Agency of April 11 and An-Nahar, The Daily Star, Al-Anwar, and As-Safir of April 14 reported that Ambassador Khalil Mekkawi, president of the board of directors of the Worldwide Alumni Association of the American University of Beirut (WAAAUB), announced that WAAAUB will host an open house to inaugurate its headquarters at the AUB Faculty Apartments 1 building on Thursday April 17 at 4 pm.

  • Al-Mustqbal of April 11 and The Daily Star of April 12 announced that a concert entitled "Women of Note: Ensemble Polyphonica and Friends" will take place on April 14 at Assembly Hall. Lessons to be learned from other Countries' Experiences". The lecture was given on April 10 at the Gefinor Rotana Hotel, Beirut under the auspices of HE Minister of Public Health Mohammad Jawad Khalife, the Tobacco Control Research Group of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs. The paper said that Dr. Connolly also shared tobacco control strategies that work. These included imposing big taxes and big warnings on tobacco products and total smoking bans.

  • Al-Balad of April 11 published the results of the Mini Football University Championship organized by the Manar University in Tripoli and the Lebanese Federation of University Sports. The paper said that AUB lost to the University of Kaslik.

  • L'Orient-Le Jour of April 11 announced that Mr. Julien Aliquot, researcher at the French Institute of the Near East, will give a lecture at the AUB Museum entitled "Les Itureens: un people du Liban (IIe siecle av. J.C. - IIe siecle ap. J.C.)" on April 16. The paper said that the lecture is organized by the Society of Friends of the AUB Museum.

  • The Central New Agency of April 11 reported that former Lebanese Prime Minister Omar Karameh was released from AUBMC after he received treatment for his ulcer.

  • Al-Akhbar of April 12 published a lengthy article on the recent art project by Zeina Maasiri, assistant professor in AUB's Department of Graphic Design. The paper said that by surveying billboards and street posters released during the civil war, the project offers a unique reading and interpretation of it.

  • Al-Anwar and Al-Bayraq of April 12 reported on the recent tree planting and reforestation project in the Lebanese village of Jwar Al-Hawz, in the Metn, which is the result of a joint effort of AUB's Center for Nature Conservation and Sustainable Futures - IBSAR and the municipality of the village. The paper said that 150 trees were planted in the region.

  • Al-Anwar of April 12 published an essay by Fuad Daaboul describing the first spark of the Lebanese civil war. Daaboul recalled how Lebanese president Sleiman Frajieh called the presidential palace from his room in AUB's hospital.

  • tayyar.org of April 13 published an article commemorating the assassination of three Palestinian leaders in Verdun street in Beirut, 35 years ago, on April 10, 1973 by Israeli commandos. The paper said that among those leaders was Kamal Naser who was an AUB graduate.

  • Al-Akhbar of April 14 reported on the forthcoming lecture by Professor Nasr Abu Zayd from the University of Leiden in Holland on April 14 at West Hall entitled "Reformation of Islamic Thought: Limits and Possibilities." The paper said that George Nasr will also lecture in the same location on April 15 on climate change in the Arab world and its effects on water and land.

  • Al-Balad of April 14 published an interview with Sharif Abdunnoor, director of the play "The Journey of Handhala" which was performed at AUB.

  • The Central News Agency of April 18 and Al-Mustaqbal of April 19 announced that MTC Touch will participate in the forthcoming AUB job fair.

  • Al-Anwar of April 19 reported on the symposium organized by Bemo Europe - Banque Prive held at Gefinor Rotana Hotel on April 15. The paper said that AUB professor of business Salim Shaheen was one of the speakers at the symposium.

  • An-Nahar, Al-Mustaqbal, As-Safir, Al-Anwar, The Daily Star of April 19 reported on the inauguration of the Worldwide Alumni Association of the American University of Beirut (WAAAUB)'s headquarters on April 17 at the AUB Faculty Apartments 1 building on Thursday April 17 at 4 pm. The papers said that Ambassador Khalil Mekkawi, president of the board of directors WAAAUB, hosted this open house and inaugural.

  • Al-Mustaqbal of April 19 announced that on April 8 McDonalds fast food restaurant offered the St. Jude Children's Cancer Center in Lebanon at AUBMC a $26,000 check. The paper said that the donation came after a fundraising campaign held by McDonalds from October 30, 2007 until November 30, 2007.

  • Al-Mustaqbal and The Daily Star of April 19 published a lengthy article on the recent art project and exhibit entitled "Signs of Conflict" by Zeina Maasiri, assistant professor in AUB's Department of Graphic Design. The papers said that by surveying billboards and street posters released during the civil war, the project offers a unique reading and interpretation of it. The exhibit was part of Home Works IV forum. The Daily Star included an interview with the artist.

  • As-Safir of April 19 announced that AUB launched a branded channel on YouTube. The papers quoted the director of AUB's Academic Computing Center, which created the channel, Rosangela Silva as saying, "Films like these are a form of direct communication between AUB and young people living abroad who increasingly depend on the internet for information when choosing universities."

  • L'Orient Le-Jour and The Daily Star of April 19 reported on the symposium organized by the Beirut Annunciation Orthodox College entitled "Problem solving: a tool of transformation," held on April 17. The papers said that AUB professors of education Murad Jurdak and Saouma BouJaoude spoke at the symposium.

  • An-Nahar of April 21 and <http://tayyar.org>tayyar.org of April 22 published a lengthy article on a recently published report by the Organization for Forest Resources and Development on the status of deforestation in Lebanon in 2007. The articles surveyed the educational and research programs in universities in Lebanon, among them AUB, that deal with managing forestation.

  • Al-Akhbar of April 21 reported that Chad Elias from Northwestern University, Chicago will give a lectured at AUB entitled "Surviving Images, Contemporary Art in Beirut" in Nicely Hall on April 22 in Nicely 409. The paper also announced that Professor Jack Shaheen will hold a book signing for his recently published book Guilty: Hollywood's Verdict on Arabs after 9/11 on April 23 in AUB's Bookstore.

  • An-Nahar, Al-Akhbar, Al-Mustaqbal, Al-Liwa', Ad-Diyar, Al-Bayraq, Al-Balad, Al-Anwar, and L'Orient Le-Jour of April 22 announced that AUB's team is so far ranking first in the Bank of Beirut Rugby League championship.

  • Al-Akhbar of April 22 reported that an Ethiopian woman was admitted to AUBMC due to an injury she suffered after a sharp object was jabbed in her neck.

  • Al-Liwa' of April 22 published a lengthy article on the current hospitalization costs crisis in Lebanon. The paper interviewed MP and AUBMC doctor Ismail Sukkarieh who said that some of the medical expenses are caused by fraudulent bills. 

  • The Central News Agency of April 22 announced that the Council for Tannourine Cedar Preserve, in collaboration with AUB, is screening in Issam Fares Hall of Notre Dame University on May 5 a documentary on the site. The paper said that AUB professor Nabil Nemer will participate in the discussion following the movie.

  • An-Nahar and Ad-Diyar of April 23 published a lengthy article on a workshop on the banking activities in Lebanon entitled "Basle 2" held at Gefinor Rotana Hotel and sponsored by the Lebanese Central Bank. The papers said that AUB professor of commercial law Paul Marcus spoke at the closing session on teaching banking law in universities.

  • An-Nahar of April 23 reported at length on the lecture given at AUB by professor Jack Shaheen entitled "Hollywood's Reel Bad Arabs, Problems and Prospects" on April 22. The paper said that the lecture was organized by Prince Alwalid Bin Talal AlSaud Center for American Studies and Research at AUB.

  • Al-Akhbar, An-Nahar, Ad-Diyar, and Al-Bayraq of April 23 announced that AUB's women basket ball team will compete against Notre Dame University in the final game of the Lebanese Federation of University Sports basketball championship at International College, Beirut basket ball courts.

  • Al-Liwa', As-Safir, and Al-Anwar of April 23 announced that AUB and its workers’ syndicate signed a two year collective agreement. The papers said that AUB president John Waterbury and Abdallah Faour, the head of the syndicate, signed the agreement in the presence of AUB senior staff.

  • An-Nahar of April 29 announced that Rami Ollaik launched a new movement called Lubnan Ghadan (Lebanon Tomorrow) during the signing of his book Tarik An-Nahl at Shahrazad Restaurant in Baalbek. The paper said that the latter comes as part of a series of book signings that started at AUB.

  • Al-Akhbar of April 29 reported on a sit-in held in front of AUB's West Hall by students active in Solide, an organization that supports the cause of the Lebanese disappeared, calling for joining the case of Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons to the International Tribunal that was set
    by the United Nations.

  • The Daily Star of April 29 announced that MTC Touch will participate in the forthcoming AUB job fair.

  • An-Nahar of April 30 reported on the launching of the " Mohammad Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Program for Pioneers." The paper said that the program was founded by Al-Maktoum Foundation and it offers 100 university grants for  distinguished MA students coming from different universities including AUB.

  • An-Nahar and Ad-Diyar of April 30 reported that the Rotary Club in Area 2450 will be launching its 72nd Conference on May 1 in Habtour Grand Hotel under the title; "The Human and his Environment." The paper carried the statement by the Mouhafez of the Region Farid Gebran who talked about the importance of the conference and outlined the humanitarian achievements of the Club in many fields including the support of Saint-Jude of CCCL affiliated with AUBMC.

  • An-Nahar, Al-Anwar, L'Orient-Le Jour, Al-Mustaqbal, As-Safir, Al-Bayraq  and  Ad-Diyar of April 30 reported on the results of the basketball championship , held in ACS by the Lebanese Federation of University Sports. The papers said that AUB's women's basket ball team won the championship and beat Notre Dame (103/70).

  • An-Nahar, Al-Mustaqbal, Al-Bayraq, L'Orient-Le Jour, Ad-Diyar and Al-Balad of April 30 announced that AUB's team is so far ranking first in the Bank of Beirut Rugby League Championship.

  • Al-Liwa and Al-Akhbar of April 30 reported on the lecture given at AUB by professor Jack Shaheen entitled "Hollywood's Reel Bad Arabs, Problems and Prospects" on April 22. Papers said that the lecture was organized by Prince Alwalid Bin Talal AlSaud Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR)at AUB.

  • As-Safir of April 30 announced that the Graduation Ceremony of ACS will be held at Assembly Hall on May 7.

  • The Daily Star of April 30 reported on the ceremony held by Mabarrat Foundation, honoring 300 students coming from different universities including AUB.

  • The Daily Star of April 30 published an interview with Professor Jack Shaheen, discussing Beirut, his work, past and present. Shaheen said that he attended several university classes during his visit to AUB on the occasion of giving a talk, and that he found a range of student interest and awareness about Hollywood's clichés regarding Arabs and Muslims.

  • An-Nahar of April 30 included a brief biography of Attiyah, saying that he served as chairman of the Near East Division in the Congress Library, adding that he used to be a student at AUB. The paper added that  Atiyyah, who originated from Al-Koura area in Lebanon, was due to be honored by NDU next May.
