Now Lebanon of July 4 published an article featuring movements in Beirut to preserve its cultural heritage. The paper gave the example of Beirut’s “Egg,” which is threatened with demolition as part of downtown’s post-war construction boom. The structure was constructed by architect Joseph-Philippe Karam in 1965. Al-Bia wal Tanmia of July 6 reported that sewage remains the primary pollutant of water in Lebanon and said that while the American University of Beirut's beach is virtually free from bacterial pollution, the public beach at Ramlet al-Baida registered high levels of bacterial pollution exceeding 1,000. The paper quoted AUB professor of political studies Ahmad Mousalli as saying, “There is some debate as to how much influence each man has in Lebanon. It recommended the creation of 18 marine protectorates along the Lebanese coast. The Jerusalem Post of July 30 and Now Lebanon of July 31 reported on the results of a study on “Media Consumption and Habits of Middle East and North Africa Internet Users,” which found that 57 percent of Internet users in the region have a graduate degree, and another 12 percent have a post graduate degree.
