Now Lebanon of November 1 published an article about the lack of green public spaces in Beirut. The paper gave the example of few parks and green spaces in Beirut, adding that green spaces at university campuses, such as the American University of Beirut, are not open to the public, and so they cannot be considered part of the capital’s green space.

The paper said that AUB professor of architecture Mona Fawaz had written to the chair of the LAU Architecture Department questioning the soundness of his decision to invite the architect during such tense times in the region.

Terra Net of November 11 reported that the Appeals Chamber of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) ruled in favor of allowing the tribunal to decide whether former General Jamil Sayyed could see evidence concerning his case. AUB Professor of Sociology Sari Hanafi said, “After the welter of criticism that Hizbullah and its allies have leveled at the court in recent months, the verdict demonstrates that the STL’s judges are capable of impartial deliberation.”

Now Lebanon of November 12 reported that in late October, a group of women, thought to be Hizbullah supporters, attacked Special Tribunal for Lebanon investigators outside a clinic in Dahiyeh. The paper quoted Lamia Shehadeh, a former professor of women studies at the American University of Beirut as saying, “It couldn’t have been a spontaneous action because if they belonged to Hizbullah they would not dare to do this without permission of the Hizbullah authorities.”

The paper quoted AUB professor of political studies Hilal Khashan as saying, “Jumblat’s decision [the call to denounce the Special Tribunal for Lebanon] is ‘an escalation.’ Hizbullah’s next move will be to bring the cabinet down.”
