  • Al-Ghad of September 3 reported on the art exhibit “Hakaya” in Jordan and said that artist Rana al-Shibli participated in the exhibit. The paper said that Shibli is an AUB alumna.

  • The Gulf Today of September 4 and Menafn of September 5 reported that Silkor Laser Medical Center announced its plans to open nine new centers as part of its strategic expansion agenda in the region from the UAE. The paper said that the Silkor model was the subject of an academic case study jointly conducted by Stanford Graduate School of Business in California and the Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut.

  • The Jordan Times and Zawya of September 20 reported that United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has announced the appointment of Rima Khalaf as undersecretary general and executive secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The paper said that Khalaf holds a BA in economics from the American University of Beirut and a doctorate of philosophy in system science from Portland State University.

  • Middle East Online of September 27 published a political editorial arguing that “the post-9/11 decade saw two opposite movements: first, an extraordinary response by members of the international community to build or rebuild relations between Islam and Christianity, the Muslim world and the West; second, at the same time, the growth of Islamophobia.” The paper said that among the examples of the former is Prince Al-Walid Bin Talal's endowment of six centers, enabling the creation of two American studies centers at the American University in Cairo and American University in Beirut, and four centers at Harvard, Cambridge and Edinburgh universities, and the continued work of Georgetown University's Centre for Muslim Christian Understanding established in 1993 to build bridges between Islam and the West.
