Arab News of June 1 reported that a recent study has shown that the Middle East has more Facebook users than newspaper readers. The paper quoted AUB professor Nabil Dajani as saying, "Newspaper readership has been dwindling for a long time ... People are fed up with political news and there is nothing in the newspapers which addresses what the average Arab citizen wants … Facebook, on the other hand, addresses things people are concerned with." Middle East Online of June 2 published a political editorial by Rami Khouri, the director of AUB's Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs, entitled, "From Jewish Ethics to Israeli Free-Fire Zones.” In it, he argued that Jewish ethics hold human beings accountable to a higher moral code; and questioned whether this also applies to a Jewish state. Almalaf, Al-Arrab News, Ammon News, Federation of Arabic News Agencies, and Petra of June 4, and The Jordan Times and Al-Ghad of June 5 reported on the National Center for Diabetes Endocrinology and Genetics (NCDEG) in Jordan that was unveiled at the 13th Annual Conference of the Lebanese Society for Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Lipids in Lebanon. The papers said that AUBMC Professor of Endocrinology Sami Azar presented the results of the global International Diabetes Management Study at the conference. The study covered 1,630 Lebanese patients and 20,730 patients worldwide and found that diabetic patients in Lebanon do not comply with recommended lifestyles and treatments. He argued that "Turkey enjoys greater respect and appreciation around the Middle East because it approaches most closely the cherished goal that has eluded every Arab country -- and Iran -- since the age of independence dawned nearly a century ago." The Middle East Online of June 9 published a political editorial by Rami Khouri, the director of the AUB Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs, entitled "The International Criminal Court (ICC) Challenge: Balancing Power and Principle." He argued that "Israel and American politicians do not want Israel held accountable to universal standards of conduct, while the rest of the world does, and also wants Arabs and Iranians to be judged by the same standards. How the ICC process unfolds in coming years will determine in which direction this noble quest for accountability - and ending criminal impunity - moves."

Al-Qabas of June 9 reported on the proceedings of the 4th Arab Free Press Forum held in Beirut. The paper said AUB professor Jad Melki participated in the forum during which he presented the results of a study he supervised entitled “What are the tools that are used in the media?”

Al-Bayan of June 11 reported on the results of a study conducted at the American University of Beirut that yielded that cigarette smoking costs the state about $327 million a year, roughly $55 million more than the profits made from tobacco sales (local net revenue is estimated to be $271.3 million per year). Gulf Times and Al-Watan of June 16 reported that Professor Hiba Khodr, of the American University of Beirut, was in Qatar and Kuwait to study the political and social lives of their people, as well as the interaction between the government and civil societies. The study is conducted under the supervision of Brookings Institute, Doha. The papers also said that her research will also target the restructuring public policy in the GCC region. Ammon News of June 26 reported that since 2008, US taxpayers contributed more than $60,000 for research to study the prevalence of water pipe, or "hookah," smoking among college students in Jordan. The paper said that some countries, like Syria and Lebanon, have been building tobacco research capacity such as the NIH- funded research at the American University of Beirut and Syrian Center for Tobacco Studies.
