 Assessment at Course and Program Level

Evaluation

The Seminar focuses on the basic principles and approaches to outcomes assessment. Faculty members will select, discuss and develop assessment tools that measure the students' learning. The process of program assessment will also be addressed.

 

Dear Colleagues,

In order to assist faculty members in assessing course and program learning outcomes, a seminar on this topic will be offered on Friday, December 17, 2004
From 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm in College Hall, B1.
 
Department chairs and faculty members familiar with developing learning outcomes are encouraged to participate in this Seminar.

The number of the Seminar group will be restricted to twenty five from all Faculties and Schools who will be registered on a first come first serve basis.
 
The deadline for applying is Friday, December 10, 2004. Please note that you are not registered in the seminar until you get confirmation by email on Tuesday, December14, 2004.

Purpose:

The purpose of the workshop is to help faculty

  • Become familiar with basic principles and approaches of outcomes assessment.
  • Select assessment approaches that best fit their course objectives and teaching techniques.
  • Develop a variety of classroom assessment instruments that measure student learning.
  • Understand the process and tools for program assessment in order to evaluate program effectiveness in terms of measurable student learning outcomes.

Who should attend: Department chairs and faculty members familiar with learning outcomes.

  1. Basic principles of outcomes assessment.
  2. Developing an assessment plan at the course level
    1. Defining purposes (formative, summative)
    2. Selecting tools to match learning outcomes and teaching techniques
    3. Designing different assessment techniques.
  3. Assessment methods at program level

 Seminar Design:

  1. Plenary session (all participants)
  2. Working groups by program: Application of plenary topics
  3. Presentations and discussions by participants.
