Recommendations

#

1. The activities that are most useful to my courses are:

2. The new ideas I got from the Seminar are:

3. Suggestions to improve today's  Seminar

4. Other Comments

1

- to make the parts of the portfolio fit together into a unified narrative

- less emphasis on "teaching philosophy"

- begin with the "assessment" part, to show what we're working toward

More concrete examples, e.g. of how evidence can illustrate "teaching philosophy"

2

Thinking about teaching philosophy

Collecting evidence for teaching practices

More emphasis in using portfolio in a continuing improvement process

3

-Discussions on what is education for

-Some role playing in discussing real life scenarios.

-Establishing a good personal relationship with students

-Innovative ways of supporting my teaching effectiveness

-One way of structuring my portfolio

-Keep it shorter (not time but content)

-Group work is not truly necessary for this seminar

Cheers!

4

-Improved my understanding of how teaching portfolios can help in self improvement

-Ways to prepare a teaching portfolio

-Content of a teaching portfolio

-The seminar was excellent

Thank you for such an informative session, I encourage keeping the same format in future sessions on developing a teaching portfolio

5

Hearing examples from other professors experiences

Organization of information to be included

Provide less information and take time to thoroughly discuss it

Thank you

6

Define the goals better and emphasize on the importance of evaluations

Tool for self assessment and tool for evaluation by others.

Innovation organization of ideas and Triangulation

Fairly vivid (nobody asleep)

and several ideas to reflect on

Thank you

7

Choose a good mix of teaching tools depending on the type of course

Always think about evidence and assessment ways

8

Most if not all

How to structure the portfolio

Show excerpts or samples of someones portfolio

maybe have more people who are in the habit of documenting their teaching and share with us time saving strategies

9

How to prepare and what items to include in my teaching portfolio

Think about my own philosophy of teaching

Use different power point presentation format

Thank You very much for this seminar

10

Importance of walking the talk providing evidence to making our case

the process and the ideas to develop an effective teaching portfolio

maybe to talk a bit more on teaching delivery styles in the context of a middle eastern environment

11

reconsider the setting of exam questions

linking between different sections of portfolio

provide more examples

12

The discussions about what to include in the teaching portfolio broadened our horizon. There are many things which I never thought could be part of a teaching portfolio

How to document

Give us a complete sample teaching portfolio

Thanks

13

-Measuring effectiveness of student learning

-Using student feedback to improve my course and teaching performance

Documenting my teaching activities

relevant items for teaching portfolio

Physicians are mostly involved with teaching residents and many are not heavily involved in student teaching. Seminar should address the particular case of informal resident teaching in the hospital setting

14

The guidelines for writing a portfolio were very helpful to make me understand the steps needed to start developing my portfolio. Also the examples and discussions brought up were helpful too.

Actually many ideas were new to me. This is my first exposure to the content of the portfolio.

More time to work on the work sheet with some feedbacks

Thank you, keep up the excellent job

15

-learned a lot

-very challenging, but Im old for this

How to prepare a teaching portfolio

-Invite international speakers

-Share info with other universities in the region

-Tough task after so many years of service at AUB I feel I have to do this exercise!!

16

New approaches to align teaching philosophy with course material and assessment tools to reflect consistently the same goals

Improving my own portfolio and therefore teaching effectiveness

17

Group work and class discussion

Organization of portfolio from philosophy to more concrete matters

De-emphasize the term evidence. Use examples instead. Evidence makes the teacher appear like a defendant in a court case.

18

How to prepare the teaching portfolio as thinking of the definition of philosophy. So both should go together.

Material already found on e-mails. I would have preferred more interactions and discussions.

Thank you

19

Everything

portfolio content and organization

it was very good

Keep up the good work. Thank you : )

20

-developing a learning objective

-developing appropriate assignment

- developing appropriate teaching and evaluation methods

Document my teaching activities

better management of time

Send the power point document before the seminar

21

covering the content of the portfolio

everything covered today was new to me

the example of Malik portfolio would have been more helpful if even had the actual one instead of bullets

Too much time spent on philosophy and issues that are not of direct relation to teaching portfolio such as: grades and powerpoint

22

it will be useful for self-evaluation which I believe is the most important thing

all of it

it was a very good one

thank you hope one day Ill be able to write my own portfolio. By the way, Dr. Saouma, I believe its a thesis not a paper

23

how to benefit from ICE and use them for improving my skills and directing my future lectures

-start preparing my portfolio way before my promotion due date

-self assessment at all levels both negatively and positively

-excellent organization and presentation

-it was a great pleasure to have shared the speakers experiences

24

discussing how teaching can be self-evaluated , value of documentation in focusing on discrete goals

very little, but glad to see discussion not limited by need to finish scheduled program
