Part II

Please answer the following questions:

1-   Which of the sessions was mostuseful? Why?

a. Session 2

b. They all were relevant useful in their own ways, but I think that there was an overlap (teaching outcomes is an example)

          c. All

          d. session 2, provided a lot of practical and useful tools

e. Evaluate student learning (week 0) to put course together (goals
met through our  evaluation of  students + evaluate our own work+
adj accordingly based on student feedback- response to exams-etc

          f. Week 4, student oriented method I

          g. Problem based learning applicable to my classes

h. Sessions on student-oriented methods: they focused on students,
as recipients and providers of information they offered practical
    information on collaborative learning

i. Teaching oriented methods (1), Talhouk and Saghir interesting info,
gave tips on how to handle large classes-good slides good
   discussions

j. Handling large classes (week 3). Prof Talhouk is genuine.

2-  Which was leastuseful? Why?

a.  Session 6

b.  All the sessions were useful

c. Week 3 and week 5

          d. Learning outcomes had to understand rationale

e. Week 6, evaluating student learning maybe one facilitator only, maybe timing but too many detailed handouts which were not very useful and which most did not participate in

f. Case studies (week 5). Too much sarcasm.

3-  Which topic do you think needed more time/information?

a. Student Oriented Methods

b. (would like to discuss recent theories in pedagogy in one session especially relating to a teaching at a school with a diverse student body (an example was the visiting student)

c. Handling large class

          d. Teacher oriented methods and collaborative activities

          e. Week 6 seminar

          f. Collaborative learning

          g. Developing learning outcomes + their assessment

          h. Evaluative student learning/ grading

          i. Developing a course syllabus (week 2)

4-   What did you like mostabout the seminar?

a.  Course Learning Outcome

b.  Meeting colleagues from different disciplines and group work

                    c. all of it

          d. Exchange of ideas and the tools and methods that were suggested

e. Interaction with other faculty, new ways + ideas to construct our course and free expression atmosphere especially last wrap-up session

           f. Faculty interaction and shared experiences (knowing that youre not
              alone)

           g. chance to meet colleagues

           h. Sharing teaching experiences and tips with faculty from other
              disciplines

  i. The interaction/exchange between faculty of different departments- discussing methods of teaching, sharing problems, etc

            j. Protective of participants confidence and exchange.

5-   What did you like least?

a.  Evaluate student learning

b.  At times the lecture/presentation style were too didactic

c. Having more handouts and directions to relevant textbooks would be helpful

d. Maybe to bring students who can be generalized to our student at
AUB to express their feeling/ (idea came up by Rami Zurayk was
neat but student topic may need to be better selected to reflect
   common student body at AUB

           e. emphasis on learning outcomes

           f. Nothing in particular

           g. Lack of coherence and facilitators from week to week

6-  Was the listserva useful tool? Please elaborate.

a.  Frankly, I didnt consult it

b.  Yes to complement the seminar

                    c. Useful but not really used

          d. Sorry no need

e. Sharing the minutes of the different sessions was very useful
however the listserve was not utilized properly, it could have been
but I think time constraints are to introduce techniques of teaching

          f. didnt use it, didnt know it.

          g. It would have been, but it wasnt used by the participants

h. Not really, probably faculty were too busy to continue with
discussion plus discussion within the seminar was sufficient and did
not need to be developed further

7-  Suggestions for future seminars.

a.  Request for student methodology seminars

b.  - Focus on different student learning styles/needs

- As a theme: pointing to the interdependence between (good) research + good    teaching the research component seems very relevant, and one way of advertising it thinking it to good teaching is to show ways that combine research + teaching

- How to teach critical reading and thinking (this seems a cross-discipline concern)

- Thinking about cross-disciplinary teaching projects (collaboration between sciences +humanities / sciences + social sciences) this would enhance critical thinking across disciplines + further collaboration between departments

            c. Shorter more frequent seminar

            d. Having additional topics or more specialized 3 or 4 week seminars

e. Research- statistical method methodology, how to involve students in research, mentorship

f. Seminar on Lebanese student culture

g. longer sessions still have participants work on projects to implement same of the ideas presented by the facilitators

h. Oral discussion gave quite a few useful points

i. 5 to 8 pm
