Seminar on Teaching Strategies In Large Classes

  1. In this Seminar, the most useful activities for my teaching practices are:
     
  1. 1.  Interaction in the group
  1. How to carryout interactive teaching
  1. Soliciting student participation in mentoring

      -  Assembling student sessions

     -  Using web-ct discussion tool

  1. Sharing different techniques/ methods including proper use of technology
  1. Practically everything
  1. Interactive learning, drop quizzes, personal experience
  1. Problem based teaching- Concept based teaching
  1. Division of lecture in terms of time management. As well as Dr. Talhouk�s way of teaching and attracting students
  1. Question not clear- but I think we have learnt that many of us share the same issues
  1. The input from different discipline
  1. The story telling when starting lectures is a captivating way
  1. This seminar was very informative and all the activities were interesting

  2. The new ideas I got from the Seminar are:

  1. Concept test; asking the students to provide me with some questions for the exam.
  1. The poster presentations from chemistry 206 and the discussion of class - lecture shared by Dr. Talhouk
  1. How useful it is to rely on local expertise in the field
  1. tools for this kind of interaction
  1. - As a question + interest with students at end discussing right answer

  - Be more personal with students and ask about their problems with the course

  1. Ways to improve interactive teaching in my classes focusing in student participation approaches
  1. How much I am already implementing in my courses
  1. Too many to count
  1. Problem based learning explanation, dividing the lecture to 3 parts
  1.  - Learning about different techniques to be applied in large classrooms

         - Sharing different types of experiences

  1. - The attraction of video and animation clip to students

  - Find figures from text books and ask students to comment

  1. The utilization of posing a question on a concept then discuss it later

  3. My suggestions to improve today�s Seminar are: 

1. Try some of the methods to the group, it makes them feel its effectiveness

2. If possible state that we may ask questions during presentation may

None

3. Distributing PowerPoint notes beforehand. Pointing to useful reference material   (papers, books)

4. Shorten the number of presentations

5. Assessment of classroom activities

6. Arrange the seating according to the process that will be followed in the seminar

7. Ask faculty prior to the seminar about problems they encounter

 Other Comments:

1. Very well done. Implementation of different perspectives from different    departments in position

2.I enjoyed the section entitled �Interactive Student Learning: Experience Gained by   Practice�

3. Great seminar, more on the other topic would be great

4. Broaden participation

6. Very well organized and useful. Offer this again for others. Maybe divide into graduate level and undergraduate level because there are different issues involved
