The Women’s Auxiliary, established in 1950, continues to be a dynamic and committed organization. Long known as the “Ladies in Pink” (named for the pink uniforms that are worn by the ladies who volunteer at the hospital), the organization’s purpose is to provide support for the AUB Medical Center by raising funds for needy patients and to help fund equipment and supplies.

In 2002–03, the Women’s Auxiliary made contributions of LL74 million to support the Social Service Fund and LL55 million from their Emergency Fund to cover emergency cases at the AUB hospital. In addition, the auxiliary funded one nursing scholarship and awarded prizes totaling $950 to distinguished nursing students. The Women’s Auxiliary also bought two wheelchairs for the hospital’s emergency room.

In the past year, the Women’s Auxiliary hosted a number of activities both to raise funds and to promote awareness of certain health care issues. In October 2002, the auxiliary organized a trip to the Messaya Winery in Anjar. Fundraising luncheons were held both at Christmas time and in May 2003. The annual toy tea party took place on July 11, 2003 at Marquand House and included a dance performance by the Khanitto Dance Academy.

In addition, the Women’s Auxiliary hosted a lecture by Mrs. Mona Hrawi, former first lady and president of the Chronic Care Center, in October 2002. Mrs. Hrawi discussed the establishment of the center that was founded 10 years ago to provide care for marginalized children suffering from chronic diseases. Dr. Nabil Fuleihan addressed the Women’s Auxiliary on January 30, 2003, on current trends in aesthetic facial surgery.
