The members of the President’s Club work to raise money for projects that improve the quality of life for AUB students. In 2004–05, they were active in a number of different areas, starting off with a reception in October 2004 at Marquand House that featured singer Sahar Taha. The event was a great success and a wonderful way to launch the academic year.
During the course of the year, the club contributed $10,000 to the newly-established Zaki Nassif Music Program and—as it has in past years— provided support for another musical project at AUB: the choir. The President’s Club also supported the Civilization Sequence Program’s efforts to archive and preserve its theater video library, a project that will benefit AUB students for years to come.
The club also continued to concentrate on improving the quality of student facilities on campus. It helped fund the refurbishment of the student lounge at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and provided 19 computers for the AUB dormitories.
There was progress on the “Bench Project” as well. The club had launched the “Adopt a Bench” Campaign in 2001 to encourage individuals or groups of individuals to donate $5,000 to adopt one of the 72 benches that are scattered around the AUB campus. The campaign, which was featured in the Fall 2004 issue of MainGate, has already raised $105,000—representing the proceeds from the adoption of 21 benches so far.
