The Brave Heart Fund, the first public-driven patient fund, was established in November 2003 to provide financial assistance to needy families whose children are suffering from congenital heart disease (CHD). In only two years, the fund has received support from more than 800 donors, who have contributed more than half a million dollars. .
The efforts and generosity of the Brave Heart volunteers have benefited more than 150 children—the youngest just one day old. These children might not have received the care they desperately needed without the support of the Brave Heart Fund.
Recent fundraising events included an evening in March in the New York home of AUB alumnus and world-renowned fashion designer, Reem Acra, that raised $137,000 (see feature on Reem Acra in the summer 2005 issue of MainGate), a benefit evening in London in March that raised $60,000, and a beach party at Bamboo Bay in Jiyeh in July that raised $53,000. ”
In November 2005, for the third consecutive year, a team of men, women, and children (aged 11 and up) participated in the Beirut International Marathon to raise money for the Brave Heart Fund and help needy children afflicted with heart disease. |
