Graduate Studies

Department of Agricultural Sciences

The graduate study program leading to the MS degree with a Thesis or Non-Thesis option is offered with a specialization in the following areas: Plant Science, Plant Protection, Plant Health Management, Soils, Irrigation, Agricultural Mechanization and Agricultural Economics. Training is available in these areas. The department of Agricultural Sciences offers stimulating graduate programs leading its graduates to successfully contribute to the research, education, and development of sustainable agricultural production and management in the region and preparing them for a productive career in Agricultural Technology, Natural esources Management and Agribusiness. These students will then be capable of serving mainly in Lebanon, the Middle East and/or other regions in the world.

Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences

The department offers two graduate programs of study and research leading to MS degrees in animal science and poultry science. The candidates have the choice of selecting a thesis or non-thesis program. The non-thesis candidate is required to take additional credits, and his/her research will be normally more field-oriented, with a research report presented instead of a thesis. The department is especially qualified and equipped for graduate study and research in the following areas:

  • nutrition of livestock and poultry
  • diseases of livestock and poultry, including preventive immunology and the epizootiology of diseases
  • production of milk, meat, and eggs as related to breeding and feeding

The main function of the Animal and Veterinary Sciences Department is to produce qualified graduates capable of serving the region in all areas of animal science, including research, services, business, and education.

Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem Management

M.S. in Ecosystem Management  [Course Listing

The graduate study program leading to the MS degree with thesis or non-thesis options is offered with a specialization in Ecosystem Management. The program educates students in ecosystem science and management by integrating instruction in biophysical and human systems. It provides students with sufficient research experience, and it equips them with the necessary tools for professional practice and/or the pursuit of higher education.

The program crosses traditional boundaries by applying an interdisciplinary approach and multiple resource knowledge to ecosystem studies, while also emphasizing human-nature interactions. Natural resources management involves not only the understanding of ecosystem structure and function when used for a variety of purposes, but also the incorporation of social, economic and political considerations into decision-making. Consequently, the discipline involves the collection, analysis, interpretation and integration of information not only from the more traditional areas of science but also from the areas of management.

Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences

The department of Nutrition and Food Science offers two graduate programs of study leading to the MS degree in either food technology or nutrition. Students can follow either a thesis or a nonthesis program of study. The MS degree in nutrition is also offered under the Interfaculty Graduate Nutrition Program. The department conducts quality research in the areas of: Community nutrition, Clinical nutrition, Human nutrition, Food chemistry, Food microbiology, Food Safety, and Sensory evaluation of foods.
