The Environment and Sustainable Development Unit organized the first fund raising event through a movie screening: “3000Nights”, by Ms. Mai Mari, on March 31, 2017 at Bathish Auditorium in West Hall – AUB. The event was on the occasion of Land Day, and in collaboration with the Palestinian Culture Club at AUB and ULYP (Unite Lebanon Youth Project). It was attended by more than 150 people, ranging from students, faculty members, guests from the Nemer Foundation and friends. Dr. Shadi Hamadeh (ESDU Director) introduced the occasion and expressed the importance of the fund which will support a Palestinian /Arab Graduate student enrolled in the Rural Community Development Masters Program in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Science. It was followed by a welcoming note from the movie director Ms. Mai Masri, who generously offered the screening on that night. A discussion with the audience highlighted the event.
The movie, inspired by true events, tells the story of a newlywed Palestinian schoolteacher who is falsely arrested and incarcerated in an Israeli prison where she gives birth to her son. Through her struggle to raise her child behind bars, the film traces her journey of hope, resilience and survival against all odds.
