Work Experience: 1. Taught in a number of educational institutions among them the International College( AUB), Tripoli Evangelical College For Girls and then in Rawda High School until 1975 2. Teaching at Lebanese American University on part-time basis 1997-2004 3. Edited "Al majallah '' litrerary magazine in Beirut for the years 1958 and 1959 4. Worked for Reuter News Agency ( Reuters) from 1975 as a journalist ,news translator and editor until 1985 and then until early retirement 1n 1995 as Head of the Arabic Service in Lebanon. In 1992 co -founded Reuters Arabic Literary Bulletin and was asked after retirement to keep writing cultural stories for Reuters.
Publications: 1. Iliya Abu Madi .. his life and poetry __ 1960 M.A thesis _ unpublished. Modern Cultural Terms in Lebanese Novels and Short Stories (1870 _ 1914) _ A Study in Linguistic Expansion In Relation To Social And Political Development _ dissertation for a doctors degree _ unpublished. 2. The Gray Mustachioed Man Cries Over His City _ a collection of poems published by AL HAMRA house in Beirut 1992 3. Translated to Arabic a number of books in the fields of philosophy , social and political studies , and literature. These were published by" Al muassasah Al arabiyah Lidderasat wa an nashr ''_ ( Arab Institute for Research and publishing), among these books: 'The Elite and Society by T. Botomore 'Sartre: by Philip Thody 'Nietzsche: by Yanko Lavrin 'The Social Roots of Democracy and Dictatorship' by Barrigton More 'The Monkey House' (2004) a novel about Sarajevo and the Bosnian War - by John Fullerton 4. Wrote for Reuters cultural bulletin scores of researches , articles in literary and artistic criticism and book reviews and different fields of cultural activities, for an example , a widely published long research , the first of its kind in Arabic on the " Language " i.e the linguistic terms that came to known in the Lebanese civil war. |
