Dr. Nadine Darwiche

Dr. Nadine Darwiche received the Teaching Excellence Award (AUB) in June 2009 in recognition of her commitment to excellence in teaching. She has also received the Arab Science and Technology Foundation Award in May 2009.

Research Interests

Our research focuses on cancer chemoprevention and treatment using naturally occurring retinoids and synthetic retinoid analogs. We are also interested in identifying and characterizing anti-tumor activities of indigenous Middle Eastern plants and in deciphering their mechanism of action.  We rely on in vitro and/or in vivo models of epidermal squamous cell carcinogenesis and human adult T-cell leukemia and lymphoma to determine the following:

-  Role of retinoids and their receptors in the control of cell proliferation, differentiation, and cell death.
-  Anti-tumorigenic activities and mechanism of action of indigenous Lebanese plant extracts.
-  Epigenetic mechanisms of plant-derived anticancer drugs.
