To study Arabic at AUB, students may either apply to the intensive summer Arabic program offered by CAMES or apply to AUB as a Special / Visiting student during the regular academic year. Once accepted, Special / Vsisting students may register for courses in any subject of their interest (Political Studies, Arabic, History, Philosophy, etc.) For further information on applying as a Special / Visiting student, please check the AUB Office of Admissions website. You may download the application form or write to the Office of Admissions on admissions@aub.edu.lb and ask them to send you an application package by mail.
Arabic courses
Each semester, AUB offers the following Arabic courses:
Modern Standard Arabic
- MEST 321 Arabic as a Foreign Language I (5 hours per week)
- MEST 322 Arabic as a Foreign Language II (5 hours per week)
- MEST 323 Arabic as Foreign Language III (5 hours per week)
- MEST 324 Arabic as a Foreign Language IV (5 hours per week)
- MEST 325 Arabic as Foreign Language V (3 hours per week)
- MEST 326 Arabic as a Foreign Language VI (3 hours per week)
- MEST 327 Arabic as a Foreign Language VII (3 hours per week)
- MEST 328 Arabic as a Foreign Language VIII (3 hours per week)
Colloquial Lebanese Arabic
- MEST 240 / 340 Introduction to Lebanese Arabic (5 hours per week)
- MEST 241 / 341 Intermediate Lebanese Arabic (5 hours per week)
- MEST 242 / 342 Advanced Lebanese Arabic (3 hrs per week)
Since each course course takes up only 3 to 5 teaching hours per week, this is not an intensive program of Arabic study. Classes in Fall run from late September to February, and in Spring from February to June. The cost of each course can be calculated by checking the tuition fees for undergraduate courses and for graduate courses.
