About the Chemistry Department


Besides being in the heart of the Natural Sciences, Chemistry plays a central role in a variety of important areas such as the industry, agriculture, biology, food technology, nutrition, pharmaceuticals, engineering, environmental science and medicine.

In October 2001, the Chemistry Department at AUB started the implementation of a new undergraduate curriculum. In June 2004, the first wave of B.Sc. students following the new course track graduated. The Department focuses on the four major branches of Chemistry namely analytical, organic, inorganic and physical chemistry.

Elizabeth Sepetdjian receives Best Talk Award

Miss Elizabeth Sepetdjian, research associate in the laboratory of Dr. Najat Saliba (Chemistry Department) was awarded the "Best Talk Award" at the 2nd KAS CRSL Conference - Research Vision, held on May 14, 2011. The award was presented by Dr. Youssef Mouneimneh, director of KAS CRSL. Congratulations!

Chemistry students receive University Awards

Chemistry student Habib Baydoun received the Makhlouf Haddadin Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Student.

Chemistry graduate student Fadi Jradi received the Abdel-Hadi Debs Endowment Award for Academic Excellence.

Chemistry graduate student Tharallah Shoker received the Makhlouf Haddadin Award for Outstanding Graduate Student.

The prizes were bestowed upon the awardees by Provost Ahmad Dallal and Dean Patrick McGreevy. Congratulations!

Dr. Antoine Ghauch and his students publish feature COVER article

Dr.  Antoine Ghauch recently published a paper entitled

“Degradation of Aqueous Carbamazepine in Ultrasonic/Fe0/H2O2 systems”

in the Chemical Engineering Journal (Chem. Eng. J. 172, 18-27). The article was elected as a “featured article”, and was selected for the cover page of the August 2011 volume (Volume 172, Issue 1).
