SYMPOSIUM
on
"Status and Perspectives for Future Lebanon-Mediterranean Research Cooperation in the Mathematical Sciences"
Organized by
The Lebanon Group of the SARIMA project,
The Computational Science Group of AUB Faculty of Arts and Sciences
and
The Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences (CAMS)

Date: January 16-17 2009
Place:
American University of Beirut, Lebanon

This two-day symposium coincides with the closure of the SARIMA project in
Lebanon[1]. It aims at bringing together a broad community of Lebanese scholars working in the many disciplines of Mathematical sciences taken in the broad sense to include (non-exhaustively): Mathematics (pure and applied), Computer and Computational Science, Statistics, as well as Theoretical and Computational Physics. It is also planned that the meeting evaluate the impact of international cooperation on research productivity in the Mathematical Sciences, in particular the contribution of SARIMA.

Besides plenary lectures, the meeting will also feature short presentations, particularly from researchers having benefited from the SARIMA project. The meeting will conclude with a panel discussion to look into pursuing the “federative spirit” of SARIMA through a new open cooperation within the Mediterranean context that would include France, Tunisia, Lebanon, Syria, Greece and Cyprus.
