Murad Jurdak is currently a professor of mathematics education at the American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon. He has a PhD in mathematics education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1973), and a BS (1966) and MS (1968) in mathematics from the American University of Beirut. He started his career as a math secondary teacher then worked as an assistant teacher training specialist at the UNRWA/ UNESCO Institute of Education before joining the Department of Education at AUB as an assistant professor in 1973. He has published articles in leading international mathematics education journals and chapters in edited international books as well as a book published by Springer titled 'Toward Equity in Quality in Mathematics Education'. He has been a frequent contributor to international conferences particularly ICME and PME conferences. He led a number of mathematics curriculum projects in the Arab countries and served as an educational consultant to Arab governments, the World Bank, and UNESCO. His current research interests include problem solving in and outside school, equity and quality in mathematics education, and school-based educational reform.
