Guidelines for applying for a position in the Department of English
Researchers holding an academic position who are in residence in Beirut with a bona fide research project related to the interests of faculty in the department can apply to obtain the status of associate. It is a non-remunerated status and is short-term. Please contact the Chairperson for details.
The Department of English occasionally hires at the professorial rank for positions. Candidates for these positions must hold a PhD at the time of appointment. These are advertised internationally in professional venues and on the Faculty of Arts and Science's website. Unsolicited applications for unadvertised positions are not considered.
Communication Skills Program
The Department of English occasionally hires instructors for a sequence of college-level writing courses that all students admitted to the university are required to take. The appointment can be either on a full-time or a part-time basis. Candidates for such positions should hold an MA in English, Applied Linguistics, TESL, or related field, at the time of appointment, and should have two years of teaching experience.
Positions for full-time instructors are occasionally advertised internationally in professional venues and on the Faculty of Arts and Science's website. Unsolicited applications for unadvertised full-time positions are not considered.
Those who are interested in part-time instructor positions should submit a curriculum vitae and a one-page statement of teaching philosophy to firstname.lastname@example.org The applicant's teaching philosophy should be supported by course documents (scanned or in pdf format) that contain evidence of teaching practices mentioned in the philosophy. Applications lacking such documents will not be kept on file. Candidates are contacted in case a position becomes available. (Note: hiring procedures are different for Lebanese and non-Lebanese nationals. Non-Lebanese cannot be hired on a part-time basis.)
