The Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences (CAMS) and the Department of Mathematics at the American University of Beirut AUB are organizing a conference on “Complex Geometry and PDEs" to take place at AUB in May 22-26, 2017.

Complex Geometry and PDEs

Complex Geometry and PDEs are two very active areas of research with deep interconnections. The main objects of study in Complex Variables are holomorphic and CR functions, namely functions satisfying a certain system of PDEs, and some of the main problems are devoted to the existence and regularity of such functions and involve a sharp analysis of the related differential operators. The boundary behavior of holomorphic objects can be studied in terms of invariants related to the geometry of the ambient manifold (invariant metrics, analytic discs, curvature of the boundary,...). These problems entail a strong level of interplay between Complex Geometry and PDEs.

The conference is sponsored by the Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences and the Abdul Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics.

It is also being held under the auspices of the Atiyah Distinguished Visitors Program. A generous gift from the Simons Foundation created the Michael Atiyah Chair in Mathematical Sciences and the Atiyah Distinguished Visitors Program to provide outstanding intellectual scholarship in the Middle East and to stimulate the flow of visiting mathematicians to AUB. The chair is named in honor of Sir Michael Atiyah, a strong supporter of AUB's Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences and one of the greatest living mathematicians of the 20th century.
