December 13, 2011:

The Department of Political Studies and Public Administration is pleased to present a lecture by Dr. Sami Moubayed titled, Syria and the Arab Spring: Future Scenarios for 2012. The lecture will be held in West Hall, Auditorium C at 6:00 pm on December 16, 2011. Dr. Moubayed is a professor at the University of Kalamoon in Syria and editor-in-chief of Forward Magazine. He is an author of five books on modern Syria, the latest “Syria and the USA” (IB Tauris) is due for release in December 2012. Moubayed writes regularly for Asia Times, Gulf News, and the Huffington Post. He studied at the PSPA Department and AUB and graduated in 2000, then obtained a PhD in Middle East Studies from the University of Exeter. 

 

December 12, 2011:

Mr. Mario Abou Zeid, a PSPA graduate student, was elected Vice President of the University Student Faculty Committee (USFC). The USFC represents all students at the university and provides a forum for expression, discussion and action concerning student rights, privileges and opinions. With the duty to promote and ensure the general welfare of all AUB students, the committee adheres to the university’s laws and policies by encouraging personal responsibility and transparency.

 

December 7, 2011: 
Dr. Danyel Reiche, an Assistant Professor for Comparative Politics at AUB, will deliver a lecture on War Minus the Shooting? Sport, Politics, and Sectarianism in Lebanon, January 17, 2012,  in the Orient Institut Beirut (OIB), at 19:00. 

December 6, 2011:

Dr. Jamil Mouawad, a PhD candidate in politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), will hold a Brown Bag lecture entitled "Why Does the State still Exist in Lebanon?" The lecture will take place December, 14, 2011 in the West Hall, Room 310, AUB, at 15:30.

December 5, 2011:
Ms. Aliaa Mostafa El Zeiny, a senior in the PSPA Department, was selected as the first place winner of AUB's Founder's Day Student Essay Contest. Aliaa had the opportunity to present her essay, An Egyptian, An Arab, An AUB Student, during AUB's Founder's Day Ceremony. The faculty and students of the PSPA Department would like congratulate Ms. El Zeiny for her accomplishment.

December 1, 2011:

Dr. Lina Haddad Kreidie will deliver a Brown Bag lecture on "The Rise of Iran: Identity Narrative to Challenge the Existing Power Establishment Contesting US Hegemony, Israeli, and Sunni Powers in the Middle East" . The lecture will take place in the West Hall, Room 310, AUB, at 17:00.

 

November 23, 2011:

The PSPA Society, in collaboration with the Psychology Student Society, is organizing a mixer at Boston Pub/Restaurant in Hamra (near Ghali photocopy center). This social event will include open wings, open soft drinks, open beer, and open nachos. Tickets may be purchased on Monday and Wednesday from the PSPA Society in front of West Hall.

 

November 18, 2011:

Dr. Anthony Billingsley, a lecturer on Middle East and International Relations at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, will participate in an informal discussion on "Does International Law matter to the Middle East?" The discussion is organized by the UN in the Middle East Program at the Issam Fares Institute, and will take place in Van Dyck conference room (1st floor), AUB, at 14:00.

 

November 2, 2011: 

Dr. Christian Lequesne, Director of the Centre d'Etudes et de Recherches Internationales (CERI), Paris, gave a brownbag seminar entitled The EU and the Arab Spring, which took place on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, from 14:00-16:00 at the Auditorium C, West Hall. 

 

July 4, 2011:

Assistant Professor Dr. Samer Frangie participated in the international conference: Social Sciences in Arab Countries Facing a Scientific Multi-versalism: Pathways, Challenges and Constraints.  He delivered a joint presentation, in collaboration with Dr. Fadi Bardawil, titled: A Periphery's Bind: Geographic Location, Conceptual Resources and Public Engagement in Lebanese Social Scientific Practice. The conference was held at the American University of Beirut on July 8-9, 2011.

 

June 29, 2011:

The Department of Political Studies and Public Administration would like to congratulate Dr. Karim Makdisi and Dr. Waleed Hazbun, who were recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor.

 

May 30, 2011:

The Department of Political Studies and Public Administration would like to congratulate the entire graduating class of 2011. We would also like to extend congratulations to the following students, who received specific awards based upon their academic achievements.
