Political Studies
The mission of the BA program in Political Studies at AUB is to provide students with an understanding of the political ideas, institutions and processes that inform, shape, and regulate domestic and international politics. The core curriculum is designed to engage students in the critical analysis and assessment of the political world, and help them acquire the intellectual, practical and moral skills that are necessary for their development as future academics, civil servants, and responsible citizens. The program is committed to serving the university's liberal arts model of higher education, and provides students with the intellectual means to understand, and reflect on major political issues that define their individual and communal life.
Learning Objectives/Outcomes:

Demonstrate/Exhibit an in-depth understanding of fundamental socio-political concepts, ideologies, theories, and processes;

Think critically of past and present ideas, classifications, and theories and reflect on their meaning, legitimacy, and relevance to past and contemporary issues;

Engage in informed discussions of current domestic and international affairs;

Compare and use different approaches to investigate given problems in PS;

Demonstrate/Apply advanced reading and writing skills;

Apply the basic research methodologies of the social sciences and learn to select appropriate conceptual and practical methods of enquiry as applied in PS;

Demonstrate an autonomous, inquisitive attitude, in both thought and research;

Respect academic and intellectual rules governing academic discourse, integrity, tolerance, and constructive criticism.
The MA program in Political Studies serves the academic needs of a select group of students with intellectual purpose and an interest in advanced study. The program aims at enhancing students' analytical skills, research and writing talent, and capacity for utilizing theoretical approaches. The program also equips students with skills to pursue careers in diplomacy, media, local and national government, and international and non-governmental organizations.
