Fifteenth Annual Science, Mathematics, and Technology Fair

May 9 th and 10 th  2009 (Please note rescheduling)

The Education Students Society and the Science and Math Education Center (SMEC) are organizing the Fifteenth Annual Science, Math and Technology Fair on the weekend of May 9th and 10th, 2009 at the American University of Beirut. The Fair was originally schedule for May 2nd and 3 rd, 2009, but has been postponed by one week due to the presidential inauguration events taking place on the AUB campus on May 3rd and 4th. The Fair provides students from schools throughout Lebanon with the opportunity to share scientific, mathematical and technological projects with their peers from other schools and compete for medals and prizes.

  The Fair aims to encourage and reinforce schools’ efforts in:

·         Developing students' scientific and mathematical inquiry and critical thinking skills;

·         Providing a relevant, hands-on, out-of-class dimension to science and mathematics instruction;

·         Promoting creativity, initiative, collaborative skills, and independent thinking among students; and

·         Encouraging school / parent / student involvement in the learning process.

 More information about how to participate in this year's Fair can found in the Call for Participation.(this includes updated scheduling information). Also see the Fair Schedule for important times and locations.

  Important information and deadlines:

    -  Friday, February 27th, 2009: Deadline for school confirmation of participation and payment of

        participation fees.

    -  Friday, March 13th, 2009:  Deadline for submitting completed project forms.

    -  For younger students participating in the Fair: We realize that the full two-day schedule is quite

       exhausting, and especially difficult for younger students. Please, look at the adjusted schedule

       for recommendations about how to shorten the first day (Saturday, May 9th) for younger

       students (Kindergarten to Grade 3). Please note that this only applies to this younger age

       group.

    - If your school is not participating in the Fair by submitting projects, but you would like your

      students to attend the Fair, please contact us to arrange for your visit.  When you contact us

      please provide us with a description of your vehicle, the name of the driver, and the number of

      students who plan to visit the Fair.  If you bring a school group, be sure that you provide an

      appropriate number of adult supervisors to accompany your group. Please inform us if you

      would like to visit our Fair before Friday, April, 17 th, 2009.   Please, note that this visit must

      occur during visiting time only, Sunday May 10th, 11 am to 2 pm.
