Research Interests


My research is motivated by a keen interest in making cities more inclusive. This interest has translated into an investigation of the modalities in which low-income urban groups take part in making the city and the ways in which urban planning interventions facilitate or block these modalities. It addresses these issues through two main research themes: (1) the production of informal settlements as low-income/affordable neighborhoods in the city and (2) the ways in which low-income urban dwellers negotiate large-scale planning interventions in their neighborhoods.
