Research Timeline 2006-10
Summary of research project The Bedouin Health Project is three year project funded by EU INCO DEV. The project targets the Bedouins residing in Central Beqa’a, and is divided into two phases, a data collection phase and an intervention phase. The data collection phase has been completed by the end of 2008, and the methods included focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, screenings, and semi-structured interviews with Bedouin men, women, policy makers, and service providers. The team will also performed audits on several health facilities and interviewed Bedouin clients on their perceptions of the quality of reproductive and child health services. Several dissemination meetings took place during which the generated data was discussed. Using a participatory approach, the project aims to develop in partnership with local providers – model interventions to improve access to and quality of reproductive and child health care. The proposed intervention entails training female volunteers from the Bedouin community to disseminate information on reproductive and child health and first aid emergency services. Ultimately, the role of these volunteers is to link the Bedouin community to the primary health care centers and raise awareness on the expectations from health encounters.
