The Department of Environmental Health (ENHL) provides training in environmental health within a broad basic sciences background. The department emphasizes evaluation and control of major environmental health problems in developing countries in such fields as water supply, waste disposal, food hygiene, occupational health, air pollution, and others.
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health
The ENHL offers a three-year program in environmental health and awards a Bachelor of Science. The curriculum provides a broad education in basic sciences and a fundamental knowledge of environmental health. Emphasis is placed upon the evaluation and control of major environmental health problems in developing countries in such fields as water supply, waste disposal, food hygiene, occupational health, air and marine pollution, and control of disease vectors. Students in this program are also required to take public health courses in the fields of epidemiology, biostatistics, health services administration, and public health education, which lead to a minor in public health.
Developing countries are in great need of qualified personnel capable of planning and implementing programs for the improvement of the human environment. This provides great opportunities for graduates of this program.
Graduates may occupy senior or intermediate posts in
- government agencies such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of the Environment, municipalities, or health centers.
- the private sector, which offers a variety of job opportunities in industry, research institutions, universities, schools, and private business.
- international agencies.

Master of Science in Environmental Sciences The department also offers a graduate program leading to the MS degree in Environmental Sciences.
