The Faculty of Medicine (FM) depends on the committed participation of physicians, accomplished clinicians, researchers and health care professionals to help fulfill its mission. In medical and scientific circles, collaboration with colleagues from other institutions becomes imperative and the guidelines below govern such relationship with FM. Appointment of such professionals to FM can be recognized under three categories: Adjunct, Visiting, and Associate

• Adjunct Faculty
  This group is composed of faculty members or staff (Full time/ Part time) whose primary careers are outside the University faculty, whether self employed or hold appointments at institutions of higher education, business or non-profit organizations, or government agencies. Adjunct faculty are primarily physicians, accomplished clinicians, researchers and health care professionals who provide academic, research and/ or clinical services to FM.
  
  Current faculty members who hold public service titles will no longer hold the adjunct title and will maintain their academic title at FM but their floor income will be suspended. Their promotion clock is counted since the date of appointment to the current rank.
  
  Rights and Prohibitions
  The responsibilities of the adjunct faculty member are determined by the chair and they are outlined in the letter of recommendation to the Dean for appointment.
  
  Members of the adjunct faculty are expected to contribute to the academic mission (teaching, research and other activities) of the Faculty of Medicine and the Medical Center. In addition, they will be evaluated for their constructive and positive contribution to the academic, research and / or clinical enterprise, and for their compliance with applicable professional, ethical, University, Faculty and Medical Center policies and procedures.
  
  Appointment Procedure

  The University does not assure continuity of appointment to any person in the Adjunct Faculty category.
  The level of the adjunct rank is dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the individual.
  The title is renewable and this depends on the chair’s assurance of continued service to the department and review by the Dean’s Office.

• Associate
  Appointment as Associate Faculty are for qualified professionals employed by AUB Faculties (Full time/ Part time) or non-academic staff (AUB/AUBMC), who will contribute to the academic mission (teaching, research and other activities) of the Faculty of Medicine and the Medical Center. This title is also applicable to academic appointments of faculty members in the Faculty of Medicine.
